They're selling (or at leasr announcing) this as a new game with a new bundle. Did you know that? :s

Not sure what you mean?
AFAIK, it has never been touted as anything other than that.

From the Matrix "More info"
World War One: Gold Edition is a standalone game but a large discount is available to customers who already own the original World War One.

But... WWI Gold is not a stand-alone, is it?

If you already own WW1 you only need buy the Gold Patch (lower price).

If you do not own WW1 you'll by WW1 Gold as a stand alone for the regular price.

Well, I wish show you another gem...

I play on the side of Entente. France chose Plan XVII, Russia adopted Anti-Austrian plan.
AI Germany chose plan Kronprinz and Austria-Hungary adopted plan Koenig (anti-Serbian).
Germany got Italy in the war on CP side thanks to the Diplomatic Poker.
Then Bulgaria intervened too (Diplo AI is now much smarter!).

This is the situation of West Front in September 1914... France (me) is close to a DISASTER! :mdr:

Italian sector (I have only VII Army now) and I employed Mata Hari to inspect the front... Italians are arriving!!! :indien:

Galician front... the only good point for me! :D

You're italian, dear!

has the map changed? I thought it was one of the best gold's version improvement, but I can't remember what's the original map as I have not played this game for a while.

Yes, a big way. :) In these screenshots Calvinus was using one of the map overlays so you can't clearly see but if you look back to earlier screenshots I think you will notice the changes.

As a sort of teaser leaking of beta info, (I guess Calvinus will not mind) I have been experminenting with the Kronprinz plan as Central Powers myself. (the german plan Calvinus was suffering through as France above).
It mostly means totally relying on the Battle of the Frontier ie. the initial engagements along the border because you must exhaust the French forces into retreat, and if you manage to do that (like the AI did against Calvinus :P ) you open up a war of maneuver part where probably neither side will have enough strength left to apply ample pressure everywhere.
So usually the first phase is a series of VERY bloody battles on various side of the border, then assuming German initiative and big French loses, comes the German flooding around the French forts right behind the border. Which brings in the question of the Vosges. At some point I think it is advisable for the Germans to start the push there as well, but timing is important because you dont want the French channeling all reinforcements to the northern, more important part of the front, but you certainly don't want to melt away attacking strong French positions behind forts and rough terrain.

Ideally of course, you achieve what the AI managed on the screenshots, and send breakthrough units to threaten cutting off two French armies forcing them to abandon the forts :D

Which turn structure does the improved AI do better with, strict turn based, or wego? or, both? what will be the recommended play setting?

I know it's a small detail but everytime I notice it, it's annoying: the northern part of Belgium is called 'Vlaanderen', not 'Vlaandern'. Game looks great, keep up the good work!

I can say this is not true. Game programmers are commonly the worst players, even of their own games! :D

We are "negotiating" with the publisher's for the final release date, as they need some days to sort out themselves and get the servers prepared. On our side, we have delivered everything to them...

So, with luck, should be ok this week

Started to read the "final" manual to get myself prepared for the gold version. Already, I can't wait to put myself to it. So get it released already! :D

Will the manual need to be updated to take account of changes from the gold version, or is the current manual "mostly" good?

Yes, a new manual will come soon, but no change in game rules, only new game interfaces.
