Upgrading of Prussian infantry

Tue Apr 27, 2010 9:21 pm

How are the Prussian infantry units meant to be upgrading? I have always assumed that once a unit gains enough experience, gets a complete "star" of experience, it will upgrade to the next infantry type and the amount of experience goes back to zero. The process then starts again, gaining experience and then the upgrade happens.
The reason I ask is that I have built a Prussian militia garrison. I left it with the training officer until both elements had a star of experience and then removed the training officer. I didn't then check on them for quite a lot of game turns. When I did I saw that the two elements had gone through several upgrades  They hadn't received any more training and hadn't had any combat experience, but they have continued to upgrade. One of the elements is now elite infantry troop type.
Is this WAD?
Should the upgrade from each troop type be just dependent on time or experience gained?
Or is it ye olde bugge?

The path of upgrades is WAD (Militia - Infantry - Infantry - Trained Inf - Rlite) as defined in Models.

And IIRC, there is supposed to be a 5% chance per turn per star for each element to upgrade....
...but I think there is supposed to be a decrease of one step of experience when the upgrade occurs. Mr. Pocus will need to look at that....

I've looked round at other garrisons and it seems that the elements are upgrading with out gaining any experience at all. Some of my garrisons have not seen any action at all and are now trained infantry type. It looks like they upgrade over a certain period of time.

FYI I've seen WIA 1.07b also do the "continue upgrading" from Militia with 1 star to Regular to Elite.

As for Garrisons: do they have an experience star? That was an issue in WIA until I checked the DB thoroughly....

Yea, I've seen the same thing that Ebbingford just mentioned many of times. Usually on garrison units and not militia however. They have no stars or see any actions and over a period of time one of the elements will convert to Trained Infantry automatically.
