Review girlgamersuk : 7 stars

Tue Mar 23, 2010 7:28 pm

Rise of Prussia is aimed at a very distinct audience and I am sure that the audience in question will get hours and hours of enjoyment out of this title. It is still, however, far beyond the reach of your average gamer though, with its complexity and depth. This is not helped by the relatively limited scope of the game, covering a conflict lasting only seven years. That being said, Rise of Prussia has a simply breathtaking amount of detail to its gameplay and AGEOD should be applauded for this.

"Only" 7 years? How long does this person think wars last, anyway? 7 years is quite awhile, especially at 26 turns/year.
>>OK, it's actually 24 turns.

Same thought I had...they realize that, so long as you consider the German attack on Poland, and not the earlier Japanese moves, the starting point, WW2 "Only" lasted a bit under 6 years right? And sheesh, WW1? Only 4 years, a mere skirmish. :)

Being charitable it might, just might be, that the reviewer is of the opinion that the Rise of Prussia encompassed more than 7 years. After all there was the War of Austrian succession 1740 - 1748......and before that!!!!!

Just a thought....if not a good one ;)

My feeling was that the reviewer was expressing a general desire for a longer game--one closer to Civilization or Paradox's efforts. This is supported by an earlier comment about how "the scope of the game is so slim" that it will be offputting to potential customers. I am sure (she?) will be more than impressed with VgN.
