vista 64?

Sat Dec 12, 2009 11:57 pm

I have been informed that my machine is a very pretty and expensive, fast DOG! lol
Is there any hope of getting this great looking game to run on a v64 system?

I can say that all people who tried any emulation mode failed.
This is because I should recompile the game executable in 64-bit mode. That's to say I should provide another version of the game... :(
Edit: I tried and I can't. No 64-bit PC available, sorry.

I do not understand.

There is no need of emulation or a special version, the game runs on Windows Vista x64 and 7 x64 :)

Ouch! How did you get it to work? Did you set some config?

Config? No. Just install, patch and double click on the shortcut ;)

Most of the applications I use are 32 bits, like the others games sold by AGEod (though they use anotherr engine) and run perfectly in Windows x64.

Why should be WW1 an exception :)

What do not run are old 16 bits applications

Edit: look at this old thread, Primasprit run it without problems.

http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?t=11852

Perhaps the problems some people find are related with the UAC? But this is the same for 32 and 64 bits windows

interestingthat you got your up, mine is not functioning.. zero.. not able to get pastthe intallation screan... The developer, above, is stating that it is due to my using vista 64 bit system, I have dissabled firewalls and virus protection.. nothing seems to work.. r u sure, please forgive me, that you have vista 64, and not vista 32 bit running on a 64 bit machine.. we really are talking software not hardware.. thanks.. any help at this point is very very welcome, to myself and many others who would like to try this product out.. no offense in the ?!!!!

yep, that is long gone from my system.. but I do not doubt you are successful, simply after spending 4 or more hours, disabling etc and the DEVELOPER tells me ,my system is not one that is supported, I pretty much have given up.. although I have lots of non vista games working with the tweeks, MTW2 etc, so I will get a desktop to replace my dead one and move one.. perhaps I can get a vista 32 system.
But if you have any ideas how to get my system to work, disable Auc, all firewalls and virus protection..
I do admit its a little naked feeling, like jumping out of an airplaine with some else carrying the Parachute!
Thanks again

On another note, r u enjoyingthis game as is?

Sorry I cannot help you, really I did nothing special to run it. I have disabled the UAC not because of this game, but because it is very annoying. Anyway some people reported some problems with the UAC so I thought it could work for you. I use Kaspersky AV and firewall and I have not to stop them to run the game

So before installing the game, you already had disabled the UAC?

You try to install it, but what is exactly happening, what error?

I do not understand what you say, so your computer is broken?

The error you get (line #54 of fopen.c) is an internal error of Windows libraries. fopen.c source file is not developed by me, but it's inside the standard development libraries provided by MS Visual Studio. This error occurs because the file the game is trying to open does not exist (corrupted installation failure) or cannot be accessed (UAC or incompatibility problem).

So, before spending your money, I strongly suggest you to download again the Demo Installer, in order to be sure you have a Demo Installer not corrupted, and try it on a PC of a friend of yours, running Vista 32 or Windows XP (2 GB RAM required).

Calvinus, the links for the demo are wrong in ageod.com,

http://ageoddl.telechargement.fr/3rdParty/WW1/WW1_v1.0.6d_DEMO.zip

You have to manually change to 1.0.6.h in the link above to download it.

And in USA page the link is even older 1.0.5c

OK, just installed the demo and is fine here

Calvinus just an idea, is it possible that people with this problem have their windows not updated? I am talking about Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package

I just installed the game onto my new PC with Windows 7 64-bit and had no issues whatsoever. It plays well.

Here is what I have on my PC in terms of Microsoft Visual C++:

Control panel, programs. On the top right search for c++ and in the list of installed programs will only appear the ones related with c++.

But if you run windows update, windows itself will tell you whether you need any update or not

Enf 91, other people encountered your same error in line #54 of fopen.c.

Possible causes:
- game download not complete or corrupted -> so some files were absent and the game failed opening them (fopen.c), or
- UAC filter on, so the user had insufficent grants for accessing files, and the game failed opening them (fopen.c again).

Otherwise, if none of the listed causes is the right one, perhaps Windows 7 64-bit is really not compatible.

Windows 7 now has a "check compatibility" thing, so I used that. It set the game to compatibility mode for XP. So I don't get the fopen.c thing anymore, but the game just doesn't run. I disabled the intro video -- nothing.
>>And, while I do have UAC on, it let me run it as an administrator.

Haven't you disabled the UAC?

I disabled UAC, or as near as I can get it in 7. Now when the screen goes black trying to play WWI, the whole thing goes black rather than about 2/3 of it. Translation: it still doesn't work.

Ok you get the black screen. Does it mean the game is "playing" the Intro Video AVI and you don't see anything because you have not installed the DivX codec? What happens if you hit the Esc key, or if you disable the AVI play in the WW1 Configuration tool? Does the game starts?

I disabled the intro video and the screen is still black. If I hit the Esc key, I get the "World War One has stopped working. Windows is searching for a solution to the problem..." thing. I searched for "divx" in the start menu: nothing.
