Problems with cavalry raids

Sun Jan 24, 2010 12:52 pm

I wonder if anyone can advise me on a problem I've encountered in the PBEM game I'm playing. Forrest with a force of 4 cav elements successfully raided into Illinois and using the red assault setting eliminated a town garrison.

However, the game left the town in US control along with its depot of supplies. On the following turn, before the US troops got to me, I tried quickly moving out of the region and back in, this time on defensive setting, to see if the game would give me the town. But it still left it in US control and now I am out of supply - raid over.

Obviously this is annoying, but before I dismiss it as a bug, is there something I'm doing wrong? Is it actually possible for cavalry-only forces to capture enemy towns?

Hi!
No it's not since one of the latest patches, unless you are in a region +50% loyal to your side. (that how i recall it works, but some veteran player should confirm as it seems this rule gave some problems and i have not played much lately :) )
I think it changes when the cavalry upgrades to late cavalry later in the game, and then you can capture towns.
Until then raids must be fast hit and run back raids.
The change was done to stop rampart and gamey deep raiding up to Canada and down to Louisiana, very frequent on PBEM games. :bonk:
Cheers!

raiding behind enemy lines is best done by partisan units.theyre fast moving, use less supply and can destroy undefended stockpiles and depots as well as being very hard tp pin down.

Many thanks for the information, it all makes sense. Time to get Forrest out of there!
