Zoom In. Can it be increased?

Mon Jan 18, 2010 2:27 am

I bought this 1.5 weeks ago. I am still studying the manual, tutorials, and this forum's posts.

Being a long time PBEMer, I am thinking this may be THE FINEST game I have ever encountered. In a short while, I definitely will be looking for some PBEM opponents.

With that said, I have an awesome PC which I keep the res at 1920x1800. The problem is, I cannot zoom in very close. It is hard for me to make out the Depots, Forts, etc.., and all the other great stuff that are in the city graphics. When I put things at the very low res (1280 x whatever), I can see everything when I zoom in, but obviously it does not look as beautiful on 1920x1800 and I cannot ZOOM out as well.

Is there a way I can adjust something to increase my ZOOM IN capability at 1920x1800?

If you cannot adjust this, that is okay.., this game is a winner!!!

you might check your control panel settings or your graphics card settings; it may have a scaling option.

Hi Ranger B.

I have VISTA. I was reviewing the DISPLAY SETTINGS windows and I do not see anything on 'SCALING.'

Can you tell me how to get to the Scaling Option?

Thank you.

Ranger B., WOW, I never heard of 'scaling'!!! I found it.

I am pretty sure that really helps me to see the little stuff in the cities. I noticed the text sometimes pop outside of boxes.., but in my last 3 minutes of experimentation.., that seems like a great tradeoff. THANKS!

Hi Whitman! Welcome to the forums! :)

I have never heard about the possibility of increasing the zoom... the game developer can confirm, but i'm pretty sure it isn't possible :(
Maybe a mouse magnifiying glass tool may help you.
Something like this
http://magnifier.sourceforge.net/
There are several programs that do things like this. I haven't tested the one i linked here, it was just the first to came up in google :D
Cheers

EDIT It seems you found a better solution!

You can't zoom past 100% sorry, but I believe Gray_Lensman found a way to zoom further with a tool like the one Arsan speak about.

Gentlemen, thank you again.

That information on the Mouse having a magnifier feature on the box and assigning that function to the scroll wheel.. I WILL look into that this coming weekend. That sounds great.

PS - I played with the MAGNIFIER that is in VISTA, it only works if you can play in a WINDOWED MODE, which you cannot do with this wonderful game. So that is a "NO GO."

You should be able to play in a window. Check the AGEOD configuration utility (AGEsettings, where you put your serial number).
I offers several options, some of them with window borders if i'm not mistaken (i don't think I've tested them :bonk :)

Confirmed, you can play in windowed mode with the engine.

Never knew about this. So glad this thread was resurrected. One of these babys plus the new bifocals I'm getting should do the trick nicely :D

I did a little research and found that, for me, scaling does a good job increasing the magnification.

In my case, I have a 23" monitor with a native resolution of 1920x1200. I found this chart- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_resolution that shows the lower resolutions that keep the same aspect ratio (in my case, 16:10). By setting my desktop to either of the lower resolutions, I get a nice corresponding increase to my magnification at full screen with no "bars".

I dislike changing my deskop resolution to play the game, however, so the problem I have is that the AACW Config tool does not include the lower resolutions needed (1680x1050 or 1280x800) so I can't use it to change the resolution for just this game.

Close but no cigar

I tried the border mode but the Magnifier did not work with AACW. It just showed a black area. The rest of the windows stuff was magnified, but not AACW.

This weekend if I can find that mouse Gray Lensman referred to, I will give you the scoop on that.

Thanks again.

If everything fails, i have a trick that always works!
Put the screen closer to the face and/or the face closer to the screen ;) :D

haha, my nose is way too big for that simple technique. But thank you for the thought.
