I almost forgot: If you select a leader to be promoted, then put in a city or change his stance or ROE, the "promote" order cancels.

In the 1862 West scenario, Alexander McCook appears on turn 3 even though he exists at the start of the game.

edit> The reason I ask is that your crashing saved game does not crash when used with a new (not posted yet) AACW.exe file. Pocus had previously received a direct PM/email concerning this issue and had already fixed it. Whether it be you in this case or whomever else, please have the courtesy to post the fact that a particular bug has already been submitted to Pocus. Failure to do so, leads to a lot of wasted time that could have been devoted to other issues that have not been fixed yet.

Yes, Gray, I have also sent the report to Pocus ... this was noted in my original post. I received an E-mail this morning stating he had it fixed for the next beta ... Excellent.

Thanks.

In the 1862 West campaign, the 1st Arkansas is duplicated in Little Rock. Also, the Missouri Brigade has 2 elite regiments named "arty bty" and 2 artillery units named "1st MO" and "2nd MO". Perhaps the names got switched?
Also, I noticed that if I play either 1862 theater campaign as the CSA, the game crashes. Never as the USA, just the CSA.

Yet Another CTD Bug

Wed Jun 24, 2009 11:48 am

The game continues to crash for me.

Same game as the post of 2 days ago refers to [see above].

Went through a few turns with no crashes, and then it starting crashing again at the end of turn resolution. I sent this to Pocus, and here is what he said:

This is an error in an event file, not from the code and game engine. Can you please see with Michael which event is faulty?

So, here you have it. :)

1.13b: PA unit can't be brigaded with leader

Wed Jun 24, 2009 10:15 pm

Load up the Federals. Bring your attention to the city of Media, PA (Montgomery, PA).

The PA 3 element sharpshooter unit cannot be brigaded with a leader.
Saves are attached. Thanks!

When I play as the CSA I sometimes get an error about "replay creation" or so the message says, and the errors compound leading to a CTD.

Logfiles are also good to have, I imagine?

Yes. That is only 1 game that had errors, the last one, but the errors come every time I play as the CSA. The errors come in clusters, so the final message I get is "a string of errors have occurred and the game has stalled." One of them was in French, I think.

I just got a "replay creation" error message playing as the Union in the 4/1861 Campaign w/KY. No "cluster" though.

I took backup1 and generated the new turn without problem.

Question on promotion of generic generals

Fri Jun 26, 2009 4:16 pm

Hi, this is my first post although I have been playing the game for several months. Firstly, hats off :hat: to everyone involved in the development and continued improvement to the game : you have done and are doing a fantastic job. Thanks for all your efforts.

My question is on the promotion of generic generals. I am playing with RC17 on a clean install of 13b. I am USA and the settings are slightly to the AI advantage and with highly randomised stats.

I've noticed that I have a number of generic generals (Hurbert; Woods; Howe et al) who start the game able to be promoted from the get-go - before even being assigned to command let alone having to win a battle. I am guessing this is because their seniority has been randomised as well and they are starting at higher than +4 from their base level. I just wanted to check that this was WAD as I thought they would still need to progress 4 seniority points from where they started the game. Apologies if this has been dealt with before.

I have included the save games in case they are useful.

Thanks.

Actually, it's a known weakness when generals are randomized; that the promotion check uses the original seniority to compare with instead of the one the general started with after being randomized.

On the good side ...

Fri Jun 26, 2009 11:40 pm

Been playing AACW since its inception, and I just want to say that the latest reincarnation of the AI is pretty awesome. As usual, I'm playing as the CSA in the full campaign w/Kentucky ...

The Yankees have twice taken Memphis, along with Madison, AR -- effectively controlling the upper Mississippi. Now, the invaders have taken Vicksburg. Pensacola, Fl has been in Northern hands for a long time, and they have seriously threatened Mobile. Luckily, for me, McClellan is in command of that force, so the Yanks there have been passive.

The good here is that it looks like the AI is beginning to show signs of sustained amphibious movements and invasion. I like it! A couple of years ago, or so, I posted that I felt the lack of such ability was one of the games biggest weaknesses - no, THE biggest weakness. The game is so much more pleasurable when you have to protect many fronts. The game appears to have taken a great stride forward with this AI ...

Meanwhile, in Virginia, I'm having a heck of a time taking even Manassas. I have 3 corps with Lee's Army and am finding it difficult to advance. We're holding depots at Charlottesville and Fredericksburg, but keep getting beaten back. The Union forces there are huge.

Great game!!!

Just, get the crashes out!!!! :)
