Got the same problem. (See "problems") I reinstalled directx 9.0c from the site mentioned, and have not that error anymore (the game still hangs at that screen though, just no more directx error message).

nb.: I never had seen that screen with the red AGE text before; does everybody get that screen at the start of the game, or is it a screen you only get when an error shows up?)

Just my guess. The problem seems to be here

DDraw Status: Not Available
D3D Status: Not Available
AGP Status: Not Available

For some reason the Direct3D functionality is not enabled

Perhaps these solutions will work?

Its just a new AGEOD splash screen logo included on the latest patches on the different games (probably many only beta patches still).
If you are not trying the latest betas you would not see it (you don't miss much in any case ;) )

Sorry, can't hep with the DirectX issue my software knowledge its very limited :bonk:
If it could be of any help, i use the Omega drivers since a year ago or so on my ATI 9600 pro and they have given me no problems.
I fact they work much better than the official ones in my computer! :coeurs:

Cheers!

Hello Gray.

From your latest post, I presume that you have a in-board nVidia graphic chip and installed an extra ATI graphic card (with just 64 Mb ??) on your laptop ?? And changed recently your motherboard ?. All these things can be a source of problems (specially changing motherboards).
One possible reason for your problems is maybe your ATI graphic card is dead ans so is not recognized ? It happens, believe me :bonk: (but not as frequently as a dead MoB...)

Omega drivers are essential?

In dell support site there are drivers for your inspiron for

ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 and

nVidia GeForce FX Go5200

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=INS_PNT_P4_5150&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

What I do not understand is why was it working before but not now, were you using the same DirectX 9 and drivers before the virus problem?

Another thing, in your device manager is everything OK, with its respective driver? Or is there something not installed?

Laptops can be particular about what video drivers work. I would stick with the drivers on Dell's website.

Have you tried the DirectX diags, windows\system32\dxdiag.exe ?

Did that ATI graphic card ever work before ? With what drivers ?

(As a side note, Omega drivers are dead. The "developer" just disappeared, 1 year or so ago, and no more updates are expected. They seemed to work fine, though - although I reverted to using "official" drivers, as never could detect any real improvement with Omega. In my desktop I am using ATI latest 9.5 and in my 3,5 year old laptop I am using the ATI-Asus drivers that came originally with the laptop, without any problems... )

I found something that maybe of help, Gray:

http://blog.ebrahim.org/2008/06/02/ati-mobility-radeon-drivers-from-dell/

In this site, there is a link to some ATI mobility drivers that apparently work with DELL machines. I quote:

"There is a “hidden” link on the ATI website that allows you to download the drivers for Mobility Radeon series bypassing the compatibility check that usually stops Dell users from accessing the drivers:

http://www.ati.com/online/mobilecatalyst/"

It might be worth a try...

Sorry to hear about your problems Gray :(

I am no expert on ATI video cards as I had enough trouble with the one my girlfriend has, but here are a few things you can try.

First remove COMPLETELY your ATI drivers and clean up your registry ( you can try with http://www.ccleaner.com/ or http://www.bestfreewaredownload.com/freeware/t-free-free-registry-cleaner-freeware-yzvjglsg.html )

Reboot

Install new drivers:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/GRAPHICS-BOARD/ATI/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-9000-9200-9600-9700-41.shtml
or (OLD)
http://download.cnet.com/Video-Radeon-Mobility-Driver/3000-2108_4-106779.html

Reboot

Reinstall on of the Directx 9.0c versions from here:
http://www.filehippo.com/download_directx/

If this does not work you can take a look here too:
http://www.driverheaven.net/mobility-radeon-drivers-support/

Good luck

Sorry Michael to see you have unsolved DirectX problems. And I can't even provide you with an advice here, I'm running out of ideas on how to have your video card recognized by the O/S (except by upgrading to Vista if in Xp or the reverse). :(

Hey Gray,

You might be fighting a losing battle :bonk:
The Mobility Radeon 9000 is a directx 8.1 card;

Thing is, it worked before, so I can see Gray's frustration in that it isn't working now.

I don't have any advice to offer on how to fix it, but you do have my sympathy, my best wishes and my crossed fingers, Gray :)

Actually, the programs that you're installing should take care of DirectX themselves during the install process, if needed. I'm all but certain that DirectX is not a part of Windows Update, since the model is that it's an "On demand" system.

Regardless, if you want to download and install the latest end user runtime, it is available here:
