Feature #20: Keep your resolution!

Tue Dec 12, 2006 2:32 pm

Or choose the one you want...

AACW is using the AGE engine which can be used in all resolutions your video card can supports. This means that you can play with an undistorted view but there is more!

1. as your resolution climb, the game will show your more regions.
2. as your resolution climb, the main interface panel will enlarge itself.

The second point is notable, because as we are using 2D arts it means that we are using alternate arts and not just elongating (this would be ugly) the interface.

Case in point, here are some examples:

Minimum resolution allowed, 1024x768. The main panel shows at most 6 units.

1152x864 resolution, panel extended to 8 units. Same view but more regions shown. Top panels are bit more spaced.

1280x1024 resolution, 9 units shown:

1440x900 resolution, even more regions and units (I'm in windowed mode as I don't have a widescreen, but it works the same):

With all de TFT monitors and laptops sold in the last years, having a game who supports several resolution like BoA or the future AACW is something essential, IMHO.

But some developers don´t understand it (or are too lazy to implement it) :tournepas
I will not give names but i´m sure many startegy PC gamers will know some :grr:
Congartulations AGEOD for having a game engine so "resolution friendly" :coeurs:
By the way, new screenshoots look nicer every time you post them!! :coeurs: :coeurs:

I'm sorry but I find the map a little confusing and overwhelmed with details / lines / symbols ...

The province limit is not always very clear to me, especially when different size of rivers are involved for exemple where is waverly.

Just an opinion but I don't like it as much as the BOA map.

Oh and btw, what are the red lines ?

The red lines would be state boundaries.

The map is still a work in progress and should look better in a few weeks. :)

Color code for units stripe:

golden: Denotes a general + HQ unit formed in Army HQ or a Corps Commander.
silver: Denotes a formed division or leader combined with others units (like a cav leader + a cav regiment).
white: normal units

red: being raised or under construction

No doubt about that ... BOA was the good surprise on the 2006 market for wargames :coeurs:

Where is 2048x1536? You can do that on a 22" CRT. :) I used to do that resolution from time to time when doing system diagrams, but 1600x1200 is more comfortable for every day work.

Well, it is nice that good use is being made of all those extra pixels, but I think it shows a bias against those of us who are no longer in their prime and simply need big monitors and big text to play games! :(

2048x1536 or even 10800x152300 is supported, you won't have a custom army panel though, but will use the 1600x1200 one which supports 14 units IIRC.

This is an excellent modern feature that makes the game appear more professional than, for instance, Forge of Freedom...

Forge of Freedom's map isn't bad looking, but AACW's map is better in charm, allure, and detail.

Still I agree that AACW province boundaries aren't very "visual" as it stands. :innocent:

Judging by the vast scale of the map, and all the activity and towns and such on it, the markers for state boundaries look fine, I think.
