Getting Van Dorn in Charge

Tue May 12, 2009 3:36 pm

I've played a couple of games as the CSA and have a question. When Van Dorn arrives in Arkansas he's a one star leader (outranked by Price). Historically he was sent west to take charge of Price & McCulloch. How do you get Van Dorn to assume his historical role? Currently I'm halfway through 1863 and Price is a corps commander and Van Dorn leads a division, which just seems odd.

He is easily promotable if I remember well.

The easiest wasy is to have him (Van Dorn) win some battles. Then he goes up in seniority, and can be promoted to a 2nd star. Whoever has the higher seniority will be in charge of the stack.

I guess I don't understand why Van Dorn doesn't show up as a two (or three) star leader in Arkansas in 1962- as he did historically as army commander or show up in 1861 as a one star so that he has the opportunity to win some battles. It's a minor quibble I guess.

He shows up pretty early in 1861. I've never had any trouble getting to two or three stars.

Give him a bde and take out some yankees. I'll bet one successful battle and you can promote him.

ciao cleveland,
Currently, I have the great fortune of hammering VanDorn back across Missouri after he was silly enough to move on St. Louis, without establishing a supply line. I have knocked him down from over a thousand power to where is now about 300 (and withering fast). Oh, my point was I believe he is a three star (three ***, my intelligence people tell me).

Ciao for now
