I really like that portrait of Sherman. That style would be great for RoP, but like I said before, the portraits are not a huge concern for me either way. The map and units are very important.

You will not be able to see something like that. The difference relies in the source of the picture.
The source of the Sherman ingame picture is a photograph, that like Nikel said, is colourized to make it "more real". The ones in RoP come from portraits/drawings, that's why they are completelly different.

For example, for VGN, some very early leaders do not have pictures, no matter where you look... the best you could found are portraits (and some with very "weird" quality). So, we had to rely on that to make the ingame picture.
On the other hand, the leaders for the late period of the game all have a corresponding picture at hand with just doing a Google search. See the difference now? ;)

Oh sure I understand the reasons. Not a problem at all and the map/unit graphics are my real interest anyway.

The unit graphic is actually a lot smaller than that, you will probably not notice all the details that you can see in the big picture posted by Hok.

Nikel wrote:gpepper, how do you draw them? :)

Illustrator work. old paints help me to draw them but the entire picture is new.

The choice to make things like is because some portraits are great and some of them are not ! so I can't keep the same quality of painting between them.
I could create from scratch but I will spend more time on them and I have to draw lots of them !

TiFlo wrote:And I take it that gpepper is the artist for RoP, right? If so, très beau travail !

Yes I am, thanks. I am glad you like them.
I hope the whole job for ROP will please you too !

Nikel wrote:Anyway AFAIK, was not gpepper himself the artist who too created NCP graphics? ;)

No, actually I was not. Cedric did NCP graphics.
I just made few 3D animations for this game...

I was the artist for WIA, the new map, new events, new menu, new units and portaits. It was a "hard" job because I had to "fit" to the original graphics made by Sandra and Robin which was not really my style...

I also was the artist for WW1 (please, don't hurt me !...)
I did everything in this game (I mean graphics...) except the units which were made by my brother. I know that this game didn't receive the sucess it deserves. I wish it will find a second life when people will realize it is a great game.

So, I am the artist for ROP. If you want to see some screen of the game you will have to pay me, a lot ! ahah :neener:

I think Hok will post new screen soon and probably some units...
I am about to finish the graphics very soon. The final map is near to be finished, the winter one already exists, and I love it !
All the different windows are made, and there are new ones ! the interface is finished, all the menus too.
I have to finish the leaders, the units and some 3D units. Few things to tweak on the map and few icons for the display of "stuffs" on the map...

So the game will be finished very soon.

You will probably see again my name around here for few months because I am about to work on a secret project...

Thanks for all the comments gpepper, very interesting

Just curiosity, how much time do you spend more or less on each portrait? And in a unit?

And a new secret project?! Will not dare to ask :siffle:

Oh, and sorry for the confusion with Cedric and NCP :o

gpepper, thanks for the info. I recently won a lottery so how much money do you want in order to post some screenshots? Really, I am fabulously wealthy. I swear I am. :innocent: Just post as many screenshots as you can as soon as you can and I will have my accountant wire you gobs of money from my Swiss account. :leprechau

Secret Project? :w00t: I love secrets. Especially when they are no longer secret. I guess it is The Second Punic War. Post some screens of that as well. ;)

I love all your work gpepper, it is an inspiration for amatuer modders like myself to try and emulate.
Sometimes I start the game but don't play, just stare at the map, menus, units, etc..

It depends. 15-20 min for portraits and around 30-60 minutes for units...

I can't say anything for the moment. I just hope I didn't spoil anything ! probabbly ageod will announce it in time...

Ok Nikel 14/14 ... you have a A+ ... I confirm for Von Seydlitz !

And yes, for some leaders there'll be different portraits between 1740 and SYW : it will depend on our sources.
