Exploit or Bug....you decide.....

Union General Hunter was shocked. Seems his command was decimated down to just his artillery remaining but he was still proud. You see he had still managed to capture a CSA HQ Army 12lber battery with one gun remaining. And in the process of his rebuilding his division, the CSA Army headquarters staff showed up as a replacement for his decimated Army HQ gun. Knowing that General Banks desperately needed an Army HQ he rushed the now complete captured Army HQ to Baltimore to flesh out General Banks with a complete Army HQ, free of charge courtesy of the CSA.

Musta been Braxton Bragg's completely demoralized HQ who choose to now fight for the Union cause everytime Banks tries to use his new captured CSA HQ the game crashes (USA trn file attached for your dining and dancing pleasure).

It was worth a try. Athena works in strange ways, sometimes.

Was Bragg still in his tent?

I have a similar situation. As the CSA, I captured a Union HQ unit, however, it did not get replacements. I must admit that I did not do anything with it, just have been letting it sit there rotting. I thought about using it to form an army, but did not need one at the time. It has happily been hanging around for several months now, (still very understrength).

"Ah am deeply honored by your gracious Yankee hospitality suh, but I must respectfully decline your right kindly offer of a commission in the Army of the Potomac fightin my kinfolk."

I distinctly heard his voice on the third time I tried to merge his Army into Banks. And yes, Bragg's tentflap was still closed at ten am in the morning.

:D :D

PS- I am honored, Grey, to have found one you don't have to bother with. :)

For those who speak french, I reported this bug to Pocus nearly 6 months ago in the french forum. I captured a rebel artillery in Richmond, and a replacement of Union HQ unit was added the next turn. But it was impossible to use it to form a Union Army because it provoked a game crash.
Strange, strange ... :bonk:

This is a combination of a rare event (the HQ is killed before the artillery) and a not optimal design decision of our (adding an artillery in an HQ unit). HQ can't be captured, artillery could... It would be better to have HQ units without artillery from the start.

Clovis: If you haven't already reworked the recent HQ Artillery removal, you might consider leaving it alone, since this will cancel the need to change your SVF script.

I am a little confused here and I may have misunderstood something. I thought that HQ having artillery was a deliberate decision, representing some form of arty reserve. If artillery value is removed from HQ will this not reduce drastically army stacks (not corps stacks) strength ??

They are deleting the artillery element attached to the HQ unit. You should still be able to have artillery units in an army stack.

I know that... I am indeed talking about the arty intrinsic to the HQ unit, that gave a modicum of arty power to a bare bones "army stack"

I am not worried about my strategy :)
On the contrary, my worries go to possible ill effects on the AI.

And sorry to disagree, I think that not only we can but we should argue with the devs about game design decisions. It is not the first time that I do it and, rest assured, it will not be the last (unless I am banned, OC ;) )
