Johnson being outnumbered retreats to Lancaster and joins Bee.

I already had Banks on the way to contend with Bee, Johnson arrives and together they force him to retreat, Johnson & Bee lose two men! compared to Banks 400.

AOP attacks Alexandria, suffered 1,182 loses to the Union's 2,895, but decides to fall back, Smith's force was just to the North of AOP, another to the SW? and I'm concerned, a couple more battles insued, McDowell & Banks were victorious and managed to drive the CSA forces back. (I left Alexandria open to see how the AI would respond,). 1861 came to an end with the USA suffering 13,825 loses the CSA 9,107. Usually I have 6,000 loses between the two at years end, at least things setteled down for the winter, it was the most action I've seen at the start, I got lucky w/Alexandria. It was much more intense than this but with all the action I forgot to add to my notes.

The AI is built to adopt really several attitudes. I suppose here CSA AI got the evnt upping its aggressivity in Virginia...a rather rare occurence but by the way yet more surprising... :D

I have a problem with Burnside, he commands the 2nd div under Banks, I get notice that the 2nd is partially operational, when I check, his picture is not there just his name. I finally check ledger and he's not listed, so I give the div to James B. McPherson, I see that Burnside receives 7th PA, McPherson's picture is there but in place of his name is Burnside who also is in the div roster! I stillam getting 2 Steinwher's.

I not sure on this, but I don't recall geting general war order #2 but do recall #1.

AACW engine has trouble with leader removal when they command a division, or army. If an event removes it, the unit keeps some references to this leader. Until now, not a game breaker and these events are not only pretty historical but help AI too to change for better leaders..Shuffling units before reforming division could help. I suspect there is an heritage from the time AACW had divisional HQ. Just hoping the code to be updated in the future...who knows?

I will just settle on Burnside dying since he is no longer in the war, on a positive note, Banks is actually winning some battles :w00t: for me this is his best victory. Banks v Huger: Banks commands 39,307 Huger 33,119. USA loses 3,615, CSA 20,706!!! took 1900 POW's and 2500 Routed for Huger, I got +2MP, incredible but true.

CSA financial situation early February 62:

I got the event permitting Conscription ( this event is slighty random and may fire from Janauary to May 62; after all, i'm Jefferson Davis and I have to deal with the Confederate Congress to pass the Bill ;) )

The conscription is costly in NM but gives to CSA more troops than by call to volunteers

Image

Am I in need of conscription?

Image

At first glance no. But, even with a large manpower stock, new volunteers means increased need in money. But the only option remaining to me is to print money when my inflation is yet to 31%. So using conscription will cost me NM, which will cause a lowering of call of volunteers results and a rise of unit cost. So the 475 manpower points will have to suffice to my military in the next months.

In Kentucky Tennessee aera

Image

plus 10,000 men in East Tennessee

Missouri, arkansas, texas: mobile forces aronud 25,000 men

Charleston aera: a 16,000 mobile force

so a total of 171,000 men without the militias and other garrisons. 200,000 men when integrating these.

So a number rather close to the real number in January 61 for the present for duty ( and not the other aggregate computing presents and absents)

OK. Understood. Huger attacked Banks entrenched at Washington. McDowell's corps supported Banks so the uUnion army size is larger than dispalyed. Banks was entrenched ( level 2) and Huger has no retreat path. Logical result, now Why the Ai launched such an ill stared attack? ;) Things to look for here...

Union AI has launched some several offensives this early february 62 turn:

- Porter assaulted Huger in WV and got good results. Huger has lost seniority.

3 battles in the same turn because Huger can't retreat. f

In Missouri, fremont extracted aminor victory against Watie's Indians at Jefferson:

I have to learn to look at the whole picture, I didn't notice McDowell was commited, I thought Banks did it on his own.

How do I take a screenshoot?

One turn later... Beauregard is sent in Missouri and Lee takes command of the main army. I isolated Union forces by occupyong the poorly manned Fredericksburg. next turn Both Lee and Johnston will try to defeat McClellan army concentrating on Richmond. Just in case, Magruder will try to delay any move toward Ft Monroe

Athena doing great!!! Well done.
In my game where I play as Union, 1862 came and I thought that it will be easy as alaways. But... Rebs came with counterattack in east. First Stonewall and his division destroyed Mansfield and Parker's divisions. Almost to zero strenght. They were at mine right flank bellow Winchester. Next turn I have sent Banks to deal with Jackson but Jackson went north and here came D.H. Hill who almost destroyed Banks division. Lost Grafton as well. All in all fantastic move by Athena.
In west she ain't doing so well and by mid 62 she lost Memphis, Nashville and Corinth. There are still big divisions intact and present and I suspect that she will revenge. This isn't bad as my I have concentrated to build stong divisions in west. Probably stronger then historical. Because of this I am better then here there. Also, Grant is here as well :D .
Odd, still didn't see Bragg. Probably argueing with himself :bonk: .

I will not have interenet acces from same comp where my game is so no bug posting. Only reporrting that text is missing in 62. when Union can recruit or mobilize.
Forrest said something about killing a Yankee for each of his horses that they shot. In the last days of the war, Forrest had killed 30 of the enemy and had 30 horses shot from under him. In a brief but savage conflict, a Yankee soldier "saw glory for himself" with an opportunity to kill the famous Confederate General... Forrest killed the fellow. Making 31 Yankees personally killed, and 30 horses lost...

He remarked, "I ended the war a horse ahead."

Thanks.

So in this way, AI has led a Shenandoah 62 campaign ans hasn't ost more ground in the West than historically and has kept an army here... The cSA AI has some improvment to come. don't waver to send me files and reprots as it helps me to build new AI events.

My plan was to starve Mclellan by siege. but in the first turn of May 62, Mcclellan attacked to break the siege and succeeded thanks to poor cooperation between Lee and Johnston' s corps.

In the same time, Butler and Banks are advancing South to reopen supply line for McClellan

Clovis,
In previous post you talked about winter campaigns. You said that rare did either side preform them. I must bring one case to the table, General Curtis 's Missouri and Arkansa Campaign of late 1861 and spring 0f 62. Resulting in battle of Pea Ridge.
Was primarly a winter campaign.

and we could add Mill Sring (KY) January 62, Murfreesboro 62, Franklin 64, etc. There were much more indeed active campaign than commonly believed.

BUT... Either winter penalties are too harsh, or AI very weak at protecting its forces from attrition, in any case, AI is just losing too much men in winter to be a creditable opponent.

AS you may see, the SVF AI doesn't stop all offensive move in Winter. There were even some Ai moves from Springfield (MO) to Fayette (AR) during Winter in my current test game ( but as they were unconnclusive, I didn't highlighted them). But these moves are limited in scope and in frequence.
