Two Union cavalry divisions under Sheridan and Kilpatrick set off from Taylor WV (Grafton) destination Person NC, same route. Both have 13 cav units and 4 horse artillery, I can see no difference between them.
I noticed a slight discrepancy between the two moves when they set off, but still 2 turns for both from Taylor to Person.
After 1 turn Sheridan is in Campbell VA and only 5 days away from Person. Kilpatrick is one region behind in Salem VA and 20 days from Person. Difference of a turn, which is a big difference from a supply (and survival) point of view.
Is there some reason why two identical units moving through the same terrain at the same time by the same route should travel at such different speeds?
