4 Star Generals

Fri Mar 06, 2009 11:49 pm

I did a quick forum search, but couldn't seem to locate any info. I'm playing the 1.13b version and I'm attempting to update the list of generals (as the PDF in the docs folder is very outdated). I'm doing the Union first, so my question is if there is still an ability to promote a Union general from 3 stars to 4 (as alluded to in the PDF in the doc folder). I have Grant at 3 stars and a level 1 seniority, but the promote button doesn't activate. Has the 4 star general been eliminated from use in the game (aside from W. Scott who's removed in Nov 61 anyway)? I thought maybe it was a timing based issue as well, but I'm now in December 64 and it still doesn't show.

Hi!
No, i think you can't promote over 3 stars in game.
4 stars ranks is only granted by scenario setup or by event.
It's something like an honorific rank, it has no advantage over 3* for what i know.
Regarding Grant, i'm not sure if there is an event to make him 4* later in the game.

Thanks Arsan, I figured as much, but when I saw it in the AACW leaders document I thought there might be. I'll proceed with the understanding that 3 stars is the highest ranking available.

I promoted R. E. Lee to 4 stars in the game.
But he had no advantages before 3-stars generals with higher seniority.

Grant to 4 Stars

Are there different rules when promoting to 4 stars? I have Grant again at 3 stars and a seniority of 1, but the promote button does not appear. Does he need to gain more experience? I'm attaching my current campaign file lest I incur your wrath! :) .....Actually I tried to upload a .zip file, but it won't go. Let me know if you want to see it and how I can send it to you.

EDIT Thanks Mikee64, I included the last 3 backup files and the current turn files (the ones not in a folder) without the replay. I could see the 4 star version of Grant in the DB files, but I couldn't seem to get him there in a game. In a previous game I thought it might be something of a timing issue, but I went with Grant at 3 stars and 1 seniority into December 1864. Unfortunately I deleted that game (it was the test game for the Union Generals document).

A zip file needs to be under 4MB to upload here. Try just including the current turn files and a couple of backups and it should be under the limit - its all the backup folders that make it so big. Deleting the replay files (*.rpl) also frees up a lot of space.

BTW bburns, thanks for the great work on the leader documents - very useful!
