Updated Manual

Fri Feb 20, 2009 2:42 am

Does anyone have a link to the latest version of the Game Manual?

I have just downloaded the 1.13 patch.

I bought this game quite awhile ago and, I must say I was a bit disappointed at the time. I have noticed discussions of changes/updates and want to really try the game, again.

Besides, I'm really Jonesing for a good Civil War Strategy game.

Thank you.

(edit) - As I said. It HAS been awhile.

Hi!
A spanish forum member (picaron :coeurs: :coeurs :) volunteered recently to do a AACW manual update on Spanish: a document with all the rules changes introduced on the patches up to 1.13a with some explanations and pictures.
It's based mainly on the translated patch readmes, but edited so it only includes rules changes and new functions, eliminating bug fixes and the like.
You can see the result here in this 11 pages pdf

I think its very useful specially for new players. :w00t:
Maybe some English speaking player could volunteer to do the same on English :siffle:

HEY! :w00t: ...What a great idea!

...Now, if we could only find someone who was fluent in both Spanish and English, then the translation could be done, without having to do the research all over again!

:( ...but come to think of it, that person would probably have to have some sort of background in journalism, to get all the particulars right.

...Where in the world could we possibly hope to find such a skilled person? Any ideas, Arsan?

:neener:
I see where you are going Aphrodite... and i don't like it at all! ;) :D
Now, seriously: i can translate form English to spanish pretty well, but Spanish to English is a different thing... i'm sure you have heard about "spanglish" already...
Bu really, its not that difficult: just take the full updates.rtf doc form the game installation folder and start deleting all the bug fixes, and the repeated things and you have a big part of the work done.
Some control+c / control+v to organize things and some comment here and there to clarify and... voila!

Eh, just run it through Babelfish. That always works. :bonk:

Translating Picaron's work into English

Fri Feb 20, 2009 7:24 pm

Actually, I was thinking about someone translating Picaron's work, since he's done such a beautiful job with the graphics and all that stuff. My vocabulary of Spanish is kinda limited: I can say "Hi", "What's up", and stuff like that. (Plus, I've recently learned how to say "General" and "kitten". :) ) But when I try to translate important stuff, then Babelfish or whatever it's called is just pitiful. If I use it to try to say something like, "Quit staring at my boobs", then the translation comes out as "Avert eyes from protuberance, Mister friend!"

So: I'm kinda suspicious of translation software. But I'll tell ya what: I'll take Picaron's work, and try translating it. Maybe I can make sense of whatever nonsense the translation software spits out, and convert it into English. Plus, it might help improve my Spanish! At least, reading Spanish. (I'd never try to actually speak it, 'cause I don't think that the King's Spanish and a thick Southern accent mix, too well.)

But before I do that, I guess the first thing to do is to ask Picaron if he minds me translating his work. Could you please ask him for me, Arsan?

Thanks! You're a sweetie! :coeurs:

Hi!
Sure, i will ask him about it

A good help for the translation would be to identify what each paragraph "rule" is and look for it on the English updates.rtf document and then just copy ans paste form there.
Most of this manual update is a direct translation or the official patches readmes. ;)
Some sections (like the first one about putting the English version of AACW on Spanish can be safely skipped for the English doc ;)

Hi!
Picaron just send me a PM. He is delighted with the translation project of his doc and has no problem at all for anybody to use his graphics and work a base for the English versions
In fact he has asked me to thank Aphrodite for volunteering for it :coeurs:
He intends to update it when new patches and changes come along. I will chime in on the future when some new and updated version gets done.

Aphrodite, for the translation, get the word .doc format of picaron document from here
http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?t=13075
Much better for editing over and reusing the format and pictures

Regards!
