Meaning when you attempt to move the mouse cursor over to another unit or area of the map there is a slight lag before movement responds. I've tried disabling the music but not the sound effects. Disabling the music helped a little and I suspect disbabling the sound effects might solve the problem. Other than that the software seems to run stable on my rig.

The new sound library we are using is the cause of that slight delay. We have no way to circumvent it :(

Greetings and salutations to you all. :) Been playing the demo over the Christmas period but have found a small problem. When I save and then quit the game it does not quit. It goes to the picture and just sits there. It does not affect the gameplay but is a bit annoying. I have to reboot the pc each time I play. Has anyone else had this problem? Does it happen in the full game or is it just the demo?

I haven't had this problem (when the game crashed upon quitting for me, it "crashed properly" so it did not freeze).

However, in most of these cases, a reboot is not required (not just for this game, but with Windows in general): just hit ctrl+alt+delete which should open up the task manager, sending the frozen software down to the tray, and you can kill it from Task Manager

Hi Tamas

I have tried that yes, the task manager opens up and I then spent half an hour trying to get the task manager to close the game but no avail. :( So I just reboot.

I noticed some quirks too. Sometimes the game will inexplicably freeze. It usually happens after about an hour and almost always in the middle of a phase so I can't save to stop it. In fact, one time it froze right after I saved.

In that case, go to the Processes tab and terminate the whatever .exe process creating trouble, this time WW1.exe

Do you have 1 GB of RAM?

My rig has 4 GB of RAM and I also experience the same problem occassionly. I'm playing the DEMO Grand Campaign 4.

I find that saving at the end of every other phase and simply restarting the game, i.e. no computer reboot, will solve the freezing problem for a couple more turns before happening again.

Ok, maybe one thing you can check is your free space on your system drive (C: I guess). Like for most games, 1GB is barely enough (especially with Vista, but also with XP). This is especially true for WW1's huge map. Make sure you do not select the "load all map at start" option.

If those are in order, there might be some memory usage issues (a system crash hints me toward that, altough I am not expert). Calvinus will surely comment when he is back.

I have 2GB RAM, no loading map and also problem. Game (AI) likes to freeze. Few times it was durning military phase, and once when sea battle started, brain icon was blinking all the time on the AI flag, I cannot move to the next battle phase.

OK, I am downloading the demo...

Mon Dec 29, 2008 7:46 am

I am 28% there and another 3 hours and 30 minutes it will be downloaded at 48.7....

If this thing will run on my system, it will run on anybody's system.

Windows XP/Pro SP2
Athalon 2000
ATI 9600
1 GB RAM

I have never really had any problems with BoA or WiA, but we'll see.

Oops, download bombed ...

Mon Dec 29, 2008 10:26 am

I had about 51 minutes left, and it bombed. I tried to start it over from Ageod.com to see if it would pick up where it left off, but no dice.

I will try again next week.

The demo is beautiful, those 7 hours looking at the computer screen was worth it! :w00t:

I went through the tutorial (a little sparse economically, or at least it seems that way). Being Russian and having to retreat my first battle was a little depressing...

It did crash when I was exiting to the main menu after the third tutorial.

Other than this, I think AGEod makes me want to cheat on paradox :D

I had no problem downloading the demo - well within the normal speed for my system. Perhaps delays are due to the amount of traffic - my 'ultra-high-speed' being node driven stagnates to a crawl at certain times.

Had a couple of crashes with the demo - one when I was trying to do something (probably illegal!) in the Jutland scenario, once when I - in a fit of hysterical excitement at beating the Hun at Tannenberg - hit two keys at the same time!

I noticed another weird thing with the demo. The game won't let me do missions with a level 1 ambassador, saying "not possible with a level 0" even though he is level 1. I was at one point able do "ask audience" with a level 3 ambassador, but I am unsure as to whether it actually did anything. Also, when I have a naval battle, there are times when I choose the "tactical advantage," and it works. However, I am not able to manipulate the range, as the tooltip says I should be able to.

Is anyone in a position to tell me if the behavior of the demo with respect to crashes, etc, is likely to be the same for the full game?

AFAIK the demo is the original game V1.0.5c but playable only 15days.

@ unikey:

I've held off on buying this game because of the issues. However, having bought from Ageod Birth of America, Wars in America and American Civil War I have nothing but the highest respect for the company and their commitment to end-user satisfaction. All three games are superior. I wouldn't judge Ageod by the WWI experience. Actually, I remain impressed at how aggressive they have been in attempting to resolve the issues with this game.

I've been playing the demo now for 9 of the 15 days allowed and have only had 1 crash to desktop. At times the demo seemed to hang but in reality the ai was busy thinking and taking longer than usual. I turned off the give ai full computing time and everything was fine.

I just have a couple questions about game functions. I have only the demo, which doesn't come with a manual, where the answers would probably be.

1. The game mentions something about sharing technology with allies and making it of public domain. What does this mean and how do I activate them?

2. How do I research combat doctrines?

3. Why does the game say "not allowed -- zero ambassador" on diplomatic missions even when the ambassadors are level 1, 2, or 3?

4. Why can't I move the British VI Army HQ from India to Basra or Kuwait even though both are under my control? The Indies Fleet can't go there either.

unikey, have trust in AGEOD. This my third AGEOD game (AACW and NC were the others). They admitted they realeased the game too soon, we've all made mistakes. They offered refunds, that's far more than many companies, too include major software manufaturers like Microsoft. Stay the course, enjoy the fun. If not with this game then another.

This is my second day trying to play the demo. I like it, but it doesn't work well on my computer (Vista 2 GHz, 2 GB RAM). I'm wondering if anybody had a difficulty with the demo, but the full version ran smoothly?

I get a lot of crashes in a lot of situations. Several crashes have happened during battle resolution phase. Battles seem to open that should not be open. For example I had a battle with 1 zeppelin of mine vs. 0 enemies, and I had to quit. Once playing Germany only (4player campaign) I got a battle Serbia vs Austria and had to quit.

I really like the details of this game. I like event cards, war plans, diplomats, etc. I like the battle mechanics. I haven't gotten to economy planning or technology because the game always crashes. All the details are complicated but I have faith they were well designed. AACW was complicated and difficult to learn, but after a while I really appreciated the design. The interface is OK, but not great. I wish there was a roster for speedy location of all forces. I wish the mini-map could be zoomed in a bit. I haven't found a way to look back at the war plan during the military phase.

But, my main problem is that the demo runs like crap on my computer. I'll have to be convinced the full version will run smoother before I can buy this very interesting and well designed game.

There is a bug with air battles right now. Also, altough it should be largely okay now, the 4 players GC is still not perfect for single player games, because it was meant to be a multiplayer scenario, so we did not focus much on testing possible AI issues with it. So just to be on the safe side, I suggest people using the 2players GC (that's how the game is "meant" to be played anyhow :) ) for the time being.

When it is two players, I easily lose track of countries, though :bonk:

I'm a slightly forgetful fellow, so I prefer the 4 player scenario, but I guess I could cover my monitor with sticky notes saying "Don't forget to go on the offensive with Turkey". :D

ditto

I want the 4 player scenario because I would actually like to get a feel for how the war progresses. The 2 player scenario is very slow and complicated, especially for a newb.
