Unit names in CAPITALS rc4

Sat Dec 20, 2008 9:38 pm

In my v1.12a rc4 pbm I have noticed that some new units are forming with names in CAPITAL LETTERS. Attached is a screenprint of a skirmish unit name. The problem so far early 62 seems restricted to new skirmishers - most units are forming with names ok.

V1.12a rc4 major new problem

Sun Dec 21, 2008 12:42 am

Running my v1.12a rc4 pbm game as the union. Up to april 62. csa is host.

For the last few turns the union has failed to follow production orders and they cannot make rail/riverine transport as well as any new troops and replacements. There is plenty of money/conscripts/war supply available. Up to around end 61 everything worked fine but not anymore. I have tried for several turns to build stuff - each time nothing gets made but the conscripts/money etc just keep going up instead.

I have logged this outside the normal rc4 thread because it is a game breaking issue and I have never seen this happen before - been playing since v1.0 !

Not sure if it is related but some of the last troops who were made had the names in CAPITAL LETTERS.

Attached are the backup folders from the csa host for the last 2 turns.

This would indeed be a bug (albeit minor) if that's the case, but without more information such as a "saved" game, I'm only guessing. Basically, screen pics show the problem exists, but we need saved files to find the cause.

It could also be because Ohio and West Virginia can raise sharpshooters but dont have any names in the database.

I suppose they cover the idea of sharpshooting companies formed at brigade or division level.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game to rc4 from scratch. Note that csa originally was the host not me. This time I have run the april 62 turn again as union host and I am seeing exactly the same problem ie no production by the union.

I think people sometimes too easily jump to the conclusion that it must be a player game corruption. I have installed no mods just the approved patches. If the support staff are running my submitted backup files and are seeing no problem with production then I am very confused because it is not working correctly for me. If the save files are corrupted then HOW has this happened when I have been running just the standard unmodified game ?

Thanks for taking the time to look into this matter. I am glad that you are seeing the problem when you run my save files even if you cannot reproduce the problem using a game started from scratch.

My regular opponent and I have played numerous full pbm aacw games from v1.0 onwards and this is the first time we have ever had to stop the game midway due to a problem. I hope Pocus will find some time to look into this (even if briefly) as I feel there is something going on here. The problem with unexplained game corruptions is that they can ruin the pbm experience and if they become common then players will lose faith in the game itself ( ie why spend a lot of time on a pbm campaign when it could corrupt itself at any time for no apparent reason).

Anyway Gray thank-you again for looking at this for me.

Hi all,

For what its worth i was playing PBEM game as csa (april 62) i was not the
host and i could not produce recruits or replacements.
I have never had so much WS.... :mdr:

Also some of my movements didnt happen and the strangest thing of all
i took ft Monroe in 1 turn and the union garrison retreated forward into enemy
territory and the captured arty appeared in Chattanooga (i kid you not),i clicked back on the fort after a stiff drink and it was back.(i could of done with them big guns in Chatt:neener :) .

Since then i have tried to uninstall the patch (1.12) and managed to completely currupt the game file (its a Vista thing)
PS..also was getting message "would i like to change the name of unit" in
a nice wooden box.

Here is Backup1 from the Support mail you sent Adiscus. I processed the turn, and all expenses were done correctly (rail points asked down to 0, rail pool up by quite a lot of points). I'll need a saved game reproducing the production problem to fix it.

BOTH the host and the player must be in the same version for a PBEM, particularly as the data format of assets (rail points, morale, etc.) changed internally lately.

Pocus are you getting all the rail/riverine/troop construction orders to work on running my early april 62 turn ? If so I am amazed because I have run it as union host (originally cas was host) on a reinstalled game and it does not work for me. The money on your screenshot should be near 0 not 1263 dollars. The problem has been going on for several turns prior to early april 62.

I have checked with my opponent and we are both running v1.12a rc4. This problem has been reproduced by Gray using a different rc4 game see above

Fix to the production and depot burning bug, tweaks to the AI, and an half baked goody that is optional to use (as it is not finished). You should spot it rapidly...

Just installed the rc5 patch to my problem game. Have not run the turn yet but noticed a graphics glitch with the next turn icon - top right corner screen.

Some graphics were missing in the patch, please re-download and re-apply, and see what I meant by 'half baked feature' :)

I'm getting a CRC error unzipping the newer version of RC5 -- tried downloading it twice, so I'd guess the original is corrupt?

Yup, I am also getting a 'file is corrupted' error when extracting.
