Endless AI planning loop and another CTD

Sun Dec 07, 2008 7:43 pm

After Fanz Joseph Event has been fixed I played another turn but now I have a more serious problem.
The AI is stuck in political planning while in military phase. I can stop it and give my own orders but if I restart the AI it is still stuck. (see screenshot)

Another odd thing is a number of french 'ghost' detachments that show up and eventually disappear again. An example is in the screenshot with the 6 french detachments near Lyon that where not there after the redeployment phase, but there are more than just those spread over the map... :bonk:

I just tried your savegame with the 1.0.5 underway... no infinite loop, but I did nothing in Politics AI... :bonk:
Have you enabled the "Give AI full time" options??? :wacko:

With disabled option the game moves on, thanks! :thumbsup:

And the ghosts are gone after I played an event (Right of passage through Belgium):

Another problem: CTD

Sun Dec 07, 2008 9:30 pm

A little serial posting, but I just found another problem with this same turn. If I play the 'Rights of Passage' and then try to save the game I get a crash to desktop. I get some C++ debugging message, but neither Retry-Ingore-Abort make a difference.
Here is the invalid save that is generated. Maybe it helps you where it stops writing, but it might also mislead you due to a write buffer...

Ok, I check it asap. Indeed I think a lot of events are to be tested deeply in all their aspects. For example, today I discovered that the "Historical War-Plan" did not work properly and created nasty side effects... ;)

Hopefully, the CTD fix applies to all events. I also got the CTD after playing the 'Clemenceau' event and then saving the game.

Calvinus, my event cards are making their choices by themselves,for example, when I played a fog of war card,the front choices came up for a split second,then the computer makes the first choice and the message telling me what front comes up? (propaganda also, I couldn't pick the target country)
I know there are event card fixes in the next patch, but I was wondering if you heard of this problem?
It's almost midnight and I had one of those "Eureka" moments,a light bulb went on about some NW,RP and EP issues! :thumbsup: I love when something finally gets in this thick skull! :bonk: :D
Thank you again for the hard work.

Check what is the duration for the events' popup choice timer (Options window). 1.04G has a max duration of 60 seconds (1 minute), 1.05 will have 600 seconds (10 minutes)! :thumbsup:

While we are talking about events, I remember I had also a problem with the Senussi Uprising and the Wasmuss event.
Once I could play them my intention was too trigger an uprising in Libya but for whatever reason it took place somewhere in India - considering that the Brits are still neutral not a real help. And Wasmuss did not show up either :(

Edit: Regarding my original problems, did you have a look at my second problem with the 'ghost detachments' (see screenshots)?! Loading the turn there are several units on the map that I did not expect as they were not there the previous turn. After I did some planning, movements on all fronts, political options, research, ... (but not moving on to the next phase!)they 'suddenly' disappeared again (second screenshot) and everything was back to normal.

I'm sorry calvinus,it is not the timer. It started after the interphase in Jan-Feb 1915. In 1914 it worked fine.
What is happening is: I play an event card (ex. Mata Hari). then the first screen comes up, the one that shows a checkmark to accept and an X to cancel. when I press the checkmark, the screen should change to the next one,which lets me choose the front to remove the fog. This is were the problem happens.
When I press the checkmark to accept the event, the next screen (where you choose the fronts) comes up for a fraction of a second,and the computer chooses the first option! It is instantaneous, no chance to intervene. It happens with any eventcard I play.

Thanks :)

It's not a bug, but a feature. These are the decoys created by the AI exactly for the purpose of making confusion in your mind. :D

Probably the event is scripted buggy... let's see...

; Effects
BeginEffect
Type=EE_ModifyNationalWill
Parameters=-1,ITA
ParametricalEffectsText=[IDS_EE_MODIFY_NATIONAL_WILL]
EndEffect
BeginEffect
Type=EE_RaiseRebellion
Parameters=LIBYA
ParametricalEffectsText=[IDS_EE_RAISE_REBELLION]
EndEffect
BeginEffect
Type=EE_NewTurnRule
Parameters=TR_PeacefulFrontiersGarrisoning,?,6,TP_Military,ITA,ITA,3,0,-1,LIBYA_BOX
EndEffect
BeginEffect
Type=EE_CloneEvent
Parameters=PUB_011A
EndEffect

-1 NW to Italy, rebellion in Lybia, Italy must leave 3 corps to avoid the loss of 1 NW point per turn...

It looks ok, strange!
:blink:

Can you post here a zipped savegame please? :wacko:
Indeed it's very very strange. I never had this problem(s)... it seems your PC is not able to run properly the timer... after 1914! :bonk:

Mmmm... look here (script of Senussi event):

BeginEffect
Type=EE_CloneEvent
Parameters=PUB_011A
EndEffect

So what happens is this: Italy looses 1 NW and the rebellion appears in Lybia box (Wassmuss appearance not scripted here, because it's another event SEC_019!), then you receive a new event: PUB_011A - Colonial Uprising (against England).

So the functionning is right... ;)

in that case shouldn't those units stay for the whole Military phase. Right now they seem to disappear while I do some other stuff :blink:

But I also had the Wassmuss event at that time and played it as well. Unfortunatly I don't have the saves of that time anymore, probably somewhere in an email when I had some more pressing problems :bonk:
Might have a look tonight...

You're right. The removal check is probably triggered in an uproper moment. I will investigate soon. :sherlock:

CPU problem??? Probably a "query performance counter" problem (CPU related)... Ok I'm going to investigate! :sherlock:

I'm experiencing the same problem, except it's the AI military move. It stalls out, I also see ghost French and British units suddenly appear deep in Germany, it's only OCT 14. I can't play past this point.

Which version? 1.05A?
Savegame?

Also: have you disabled the "Give AI full time" option (Options window)?
