Putting It On The Shelf

Fri Nov 21, 2008 9:31 pm

Well, I'm going to set this aside until it is finished. I'm tired of fighting the interface and flying by the seat of my pants, with no clue of what to do or how to do it.

I can understand the bugs, they can be squashed, but to release a $50 game of this complexity with no manual is inexcusable.

I'm not asking for a refund, because I can still see the potential, but with two jobs, a wife, and several excellent new releases on my HD, I don't have the time or patience to figure it out on my own, or by having to post a question here every 15 minutes.

I'm hoping when the manual is finally released, it will be clear, concise, and have thorough explanations of all aspects of what could be a wonderful game, but right now there just is no way to tell.

I belong to exactly the same category as tgb1. After getting used to a series of exquisite productions from Ageod with ever increasing levels of perfection achieved, releasing WW1 as it was released has been a bit of a shocker to us all. I am a prowd owner of all of your major productions, and in all honesty, had you selected 50 or 500 people from this website to beta test the game prior to the release, not only you'd have in your disposal an army of avid testers instead of the awkward mob you got now, but this public embarrasment would've been avoided.

I'd have compiled the manual myself in 7 days for a free copy, a mention in the special thanks or even for pure personal enjoyment because I like what you've done in the past to address strategoheads like us.

I'm not even worrying about the future of the game itself, and I've stated that before - I know that you won't rest until you perfect it, and the manual will come and everybody will be happy and it will be bravoes and kudos in the end. I'm just wondering as to who took the decision to put the fanbase through all that grief and why didn't you consider the inevitable credibility hit for releasing a potentially magnificent game in such crude form.

I've worked enough years in tough, multinational business environments to be able to speculate in considerable degrees of accuracy, and the only plausible answer that comes to mind is that it was merely a decision dictated by financial considerations. Because I can't believe you would allow yourselves to miss the mark by THAT much otherwise - and I simply can't consider that you were unaware that the game was NOT market ready. Because then my surprise (and disappointment) would have been far more greater.

That was one great risk you took. A great risk. If you consider the amount of fans you have posting, who have lent you their 50$ (and all of their trust) and don't want to have them back (including myself), you will realize that we all see you as champions of pure, high quality, historically accurate strategy gaming hallelujah and we'd trust you to deliver 100% based on previous experience. I know of marketing executives that would kill to have found ways to build the image you have in the market.

And you risked all that. :bonk:

Yes in the sense that we don't know whether to laugh or cry or what with the situation. That defines "awkward". I don't wish to define "mob" :mdr:

I understand your frustration guys. Try to give it a little more time. The games runs fine for me except for the combat-I have to hit pause then let it set and unpause to get the combat results to work. I am trying and I will for awhile longer. Why! Because the guys here at Ageod are trying to fix it. Their "good people". You can't ask for more than that..... after problems we all have had after release.

Have a good weekend all ;)

I can deal with no detailed manual for a while. And I am a manual guy; I actually read them through.

I am having real trouble with the crashes. I can't stand spending 30 minutes trying to re-construct the invasion of France and having the game crash on me. As far as I am concerned a game that crashes AT ALL is not stable. As of 1.04b this game crashes regularly and as a result of different bugs.

I for one never had any freeze ups while the AI was working; and that problem may indeed have been hardware specific. But, as far as I can determine, EVERYONE has had crashes. I can't believe that the pre-publication playtesters did not have them. CTDs are not only the most important problem; at this point they are the only problem. You can't play the game if it crashes.

I think that Calvinus is doing a super human job and wish him and AGEOD the best of luck and success with this game; but I am frustrated and must put it aside, for a few days in any case.

I am. If not, I'd be asking for a refund. But I'm not going to tear my hair out over this game any longer.

Same here...I will wait for the december patch and then play the game. Hey, it was not a big investment anyway compared to the hours of fun I will have later...just wishing Calvinus and all testers best of luck that they can eradicate the most blatant errors.

AGEOD has set the bar rather high.

I think AGEOD has set the bar rather high with its previous games and constant updating and refining. This game is obviously something different and still needs work, but I think it might be difficult for it to compete with the likes of the other games.

I hope there are significant fixes that bring it up to that standard.
