Well, it started out as a regular battle, but it ended in a massacre :(

Anyways; this has little bearing on the topic at hand :wacko:

Odd Unit Names

Tue Nov 11, 2008 2:37 pm

Gray_Lensman wrote:Well, by design, they are all actually supposed to have real names. This is most likely a typo in the unit "custom names" entry of some of the militia units. I'll see if I can root it out.

I had originally posted "7.1" merely as an example. Someone else reported they saw "4.1" ... and I know recently "17.1" appeared.

I will Zip up something a bit later on ...

In WIA, units that are generated by either AutoRaise or 'Revolters' get this kind of name when all instances of names specified in Units are exhausted.

I assume that AACW will generate the same sort of names....

Not exactly the place for this, but after reading some questions about multi day battles, hope to add some idea, after reviewing the File:

ROE.opt

it could be totally changed to try to perform better results, and avoiding long battle durations, unless both sides WANTED to FORCE it.

A few days ago Jabberwock did change this file somewhat, to test some related ideas

http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?t=10947

Someone could "MOD" this file, either adding MORE ROUNDS, changing the values in the

As an example

// Offensive Posture - Second ROE (Standard attack)

roeRetreatWill1 = 100|100|100|100|100|100
roeRetreatChance1 = 100|100|100|100|100|100
roeCombatCoeffOwn1 = 100|100|100|100|100|100
roeCombatCoeffOpp1 = 100|100|100|100|100|100

Could be somewhat changed into (as an example, not trying to say this is the best way)

// Offensive Posture - Second ROE (Standard attack) - "changed"

roeRetreatWill1 = 100|100|100|100|100|150
roeRetreatChance1 = 100|100|100|100|100|100
roeCombatCoeffOwn1 = 100|100|100|100|100|70
roeCombatCoeffOpp1 = 100|100|100|100|100|70

This way, after the 5th round, will to retreat is a 50% higher, and both side losses should diminish a 30% (according to the vanilla values)

In order to allow for multiday battles, perhaps both players should necesarily have the ATTACK or DEFENSE at all costs activated.

However, in order to allow this, defense at all costs must be "MODDED" also, to allow for some chances to retreat, as now it is really imposible to retreat under any circunstances (a 0 % chance in the Retreat Will & Chances)

For those seeing the oddball named Militia units (like 7.1 or 4.1 etc):

Can you give me some idea of when (timewise in the game) they first start appearing? This will help me determine how many "new" names may be needed.

Regarding those rare names I believe sometimes my "revolters" get these.

I get my first revolter nearly on the first turn resolution (i.e opening LATE APRIL 61 turn)

It usually disolves himself in a turn or two.

Last game I had a battalion named 4.1 "STATE MILITIA" raising in Laredo (and giving it to my cause, of ocurse)

The "brigade name was Laredo 1, but battalion was 4.1

We found a potential fix for the multi-day battles issue that involves fewer changes. It's for Pocus to report authoritatively, though.

Do you have the save with the new unit named like that Coregonas? That would be handy.

About multi-days battles, I think we reached a fairly good reenactment of the various battles outcomes now, thanks to the awesome testing work of Berto. 1.12 will be out tomorrow I would say.

Ah, but you always get top (and even exclusive) billing for your scenario work. And it says right under your avatar, "bigus is famous in this forum." ;)

(Your ongoing participation in the battle losses testing has been invaluable, too.)

Still getting silly combat results with 1.12RC1

Tue Nov 18, 2008 11:01 pm

Hi folks,

Now I know its with version 1.12RC1 and its so far only with skirmish results but to give you a flavour.

Reading in PA has been taken by CSA, winter turn. Battle there on Day 4 between Union 2 element infantry unit and the 1 element Reb cavalry regiment. Now it shows

Day 4 the Rebs rout
Day 4 a battle .....Union victory losses 0 against 61. Starting forces 885 Union 348 Confederates

Day 5 the Rebs rout
Day 5 a battle.....Union victory losses 0 against 60. Starting forces 886 (a man gained....probably a Reb deserter) and 291

Day 7 the Rebs rout
Day 7 a battle.....Union victory losses 0 against 61 Starting forces 887 (another man gained) against 233

Now the humdinger.....

Day 9 the Union retreat.

End turn the Union are running and the Rebs are still in control of Reading.

And this is better than before?........and such results seem to be occuring with a degree of regularity.

Between 1.12RC1 and 1.12 official

  • Coding bugs were fixed
  • Combat parameters (in the .opt files) were changed

You really should be using 1.12 official. (And if it wasn't clear, 1.12RC1 was a public beta patch. In betas, you might expect to see problems.)

That said, although we believe there has been progress in some areas, it is not to say that things are yet perfect. Some problems have been fixed, but other problems may remain (and hopefully no new problems were introduced).

That is the nature of things.
