Leaders have a strength?

Thu Oct 23, 2008 6:50 pm

I have a two-division stack somewhere in TN. When I add Lew Wallace as a corps commander, it has a strength of 989. When I add Fremont instead, it jumps to 1008. There are no command issues: both have plenty of CP. Nor does Fremont have a positive trait that would be responsible for the increase in strength.

I am puzzled. Do leaders have an inherent strength, and is it variable?

The values are modified due to Leaders STATS.

A 3-1-1 leader adds 5% combat value to both ATT and DEF

while a 5-4-4 adds a 20%.

So total command POWER changes...

That does not answer the question! How can a moron like Fremont be a better divsion leader than any 3-1-1 leader in the game? Or Banks, or Holmes etc. et al. ad nauseum!! I just had a corp sized unit in Central TN led by GRANT defeated by a similar sized unit led by Gus. Smith!! Also, I am trying to transfer Phil Kearny , a great leader, to Western theater w/o success!! I love the game but I hate it when rules don't work for no real reason. Rant! :p apy:

Tagwyn, if you have some issues you'd like clarified about stuff happening in the game, why not open a separate thread about it? :)

That's interesting. I didn't know that. Thank you! :)

I believe I then also know the answer to tagwyn's question "How can a moron like Fremont ..." ;)

Fremont has a strat rating of 2, and he is already sitting there. Wallace was just "redeployed" to the area, so his rating has dropped to 1. Which then accounts for the difference. :)

In fact, I believe STRAT rating doesnt count into those values.

The key is the OFF/DEF values

Fremont is a 2-0-1 so adds a (5%) only to defense.

But the other commander, once redeployed, you lose -2/-2/-1 to your STATS, so Wallace is now a 1-0-0 adds NOTHING to the power.

Also, you should look exactly into Fremont VALUES. If it is a CORPS commander since a turn ago, he can also some extra bonuses to his ratios due to the HQ ratings.... And even Fremont (if leaded by Grant) can be a 5-3-4.
You can check the values done as a tooltip in the CORPS figurine... down in the units roster.

have you considered this...?

This is probably a silly response, so its ok to make fun of me if its "stoopid". I'll laugh with you!

But anyway, don't corps commanders have an integrated HQ unit which includes an artillery unit of some sort, along with all the pencil pushers? Seems like that would boost the strength up a few notches...

Hi Havely :)
No, corps don't have a proper HQ or attached arty unit. Its only the corps leader (plus any unit you may want to put on teh stack, of course)
You are mistaking corps with Armies. armies are always formed by a leader plus a HQ unit and and arty unit (plus any units you put on the stack).

The reason for this is what Coregonas explained. No doubt about it
