Kentucky Invaded by CSA - help please!

Thu Oct 09, 2008 2:14 am

Hi guys,

this event really, really confuses me. So if someone could explain how it works under 1.11d, that would be brilliant.

My problem is that the Union seem to be able to do what they like in Kentucky (attack my forces, take towns etc, use it as shortcut through to other areas etc) whereas the moment I move in, I get the 'CSA invades' event. Is that how it should be working? I'm really sorry, I have no idea of the history but it seems a tad strange if Kentucky is meant to be neutral that the union can basically clear up Kentucky and then have the loyalty of the state switch if the CSA moves to oppose. (I didn't have the Lexington event in this game - I don't think that is the cause of my confusion, as I've seen this before even when it does fire.)

I noticed in my last game that I got another event immediately following the CSA invades saying that partisans would be forming in Nashville. I've never seen this event before, but there are no partisans in Nashville - is this going to occur sometime in the future?

Sorry if these are daft questions, but it's been confuzzling me for a while now.

Zeb,

Funny you should mention this as it just happened in the PBEM game I am playing. I am the Union.
I pretty much blanketted Kentucky with units in occupying positions but was careful not to attack any rebs. The rebs attacked me in Gallitan and so we got the CSA invades.

The trick is not to attack the opponents militia !
Anything else is free reign to my understanding.

The partisans event was completely broken before. Most of us didn't know it existed. It was halfway fixed for this version, so that at least it fired (even if it didn't do what it was supposed to do). It should be properly fixed for the next version.

I remember I´ve had several times the event "Kentucky invaded by CSA", and my only conclusion for firing the event was-> being the turn following the build of a single unit of militia.

Seems as if the engine asumes the unit "invades" the city where it appears.

I ve never tested it seriously, by the moment just avoid to buy Kentucky troops until next turn than the event fires.

Dont know if I am doing wrong, if Im in a mistake, and so on..., but thats what I do to avoid giving any extra chance to the enemy.

I also wait a bit for Ky. I build around Paducah and nashville first. Do a simultaneous strike in Cairo and Bowling Green, Move up both sides of the Ohio at the same time and take lousville. The the forces east of river take lexington. I wait and replenish then I go for Cincinnatti..

In the mean time Price builds up and takes Jefferson city. I move my forces up from Ark and a another double prong attack on St louis. It seems by the first snow I have 2 Objectives. The real nut to crack is DC. In the spring of 62 i wait for the assault of the nirth and do an end around towards Chicago.

I hope this helps

I have a question if I may.

I am playing the Union and I have waited for the CSA to invade Kentucky (which they have done by attacking Bowling Green with a cavalry unit, Withers and 4 supply wagons.).

The Kentucky Invaded by the CSA! event has fired.

Here is the question. Can I now go on the offensive in Kentucky? Or will the CSA get a similar event when I attack?

edit: Oh the Rebs haven't taken any town from me yet.

Yes. The first side to attack in kentucky causes the event, and once it's fired the state is decided.
