Hi all newbie here.

Wed Oct 08, 2008 5:00 pm

Hi, Wolfy here from England. I've just bought this game as I am a historical nut on the ACW.

So far I have worked my way through the first tutorial and I have a couple of questions (I've checked the FAQ).

Firstly the command points of Crittendens Force doesn't act quite like it says it should. One 3* and three 1* generals should give me (12 + 4 + 4 + 4) 20 command points which is halved to 10 as its not part of the army at this point. However it only gives me 8 not 10???? And when I join it to the Army, it goes up to 16 not 20?

Secondly when I attack Corinth with my force even though I have the double arrow movement thing selected, Shermans and McClernans force don't APPEAR to have joined in, they are sat in the previous region? Although the battle report says they are there.

And why do some tiles flash red behind the Generals head?

Cheers Wolfie

Hi LonewolfYorks, and welcome to the forums! Image

1. Any stack can have a maximum of 16 CP from leaders, which is halved to 8 when outside an army/corps structure

2. I imagine you are talking about synchronized movement; it should work, as long as all involved stacks are moving from a single region to a different region (i.e. both starting point and destination is the same for all stacks), all involved stacks have the sync move button enabled and all involved stacks belong to the same army.

You might be seeing what is called "Marching to the sound pof the guns", which is when corps/army stacks belonging to the same army are able to help eachother out when positioned in adjacent regions. More info about that can be found at http://www.ageod.net/aacwwiki/Marching_to_the_sound_of_the_guns

3. Some regions will flash red when the enemy presence is able to block movement to that region for the stack you have selected.

Hi thanks for that. The scenario I am talking about is the very first one on the list.

Is the tutorial flawed then when it's telling me that I should have 10 CPs? That just confuses the issue

There aren't many armies so it isn't marching to the guns. First you move all your units with sync move but the second time you do it only the army tile moves, the others sit in the previous region. But the Battle screen says they are there. I'm trying to learn this game.

I don't mean the region flashing red, I mean the actual unit tile.

I won't claim any in-depth knowledge of the tutorials, so I'll leave that for others to address.

Unit tiles blinking red:
- If you've selected a corps stack, the blinker will be the corps' parent army stack
- If you've selected an army stack, the blinker(s) will be the corps belonging to that army

I think some of the tutorials may have been left behind by the more recent patches - once you have the very basics try one of Bigus's scenarios to get a taste of this excellent game.

This is where you'll always find the latest AACW-patch:

(incidently the same link as I have in my signature :) )

In regard to the first tutorial; not sure if anyone has noticed, but the player is instructed to move the Crittenden Command via rail to Henderson, yet there no longer exists a rail link from Clarksville through Muhlenburg to Henderson. This is with v1.11a.

Ok, thanks, Lensman. If I find time I'll update to v1.11d and go through the tutorials to see if I can find any discrepancies. If so, I'll post 'em.

There's that AACWWiki-thingy that people try to keep updated (and work on getting completed) as new information is uncovered, e.g. by things being changed through patches :)
