There is not two maps. Is the same map.
When zoomed out the provinces look like hexes. But if you zoom in you notice better the irregular shape.
Look hard at teh big map and you will notice that there are no "real" hexes.
I think each of the boeardgame hexes has been converted to a region. So in the end is the same.
You can think of the region as hexes drawn by a guy with Parkinson :neener: :D

the last few scenarios seemed a little simple and once i figured out the basic mechanics (and even before) i managed to win the game for Germany with loosing only in a single scenario.

But! were i not so lazy, id give TAO: Century of Warfare with their wonderful complete WW1 scenarios a whirl.. but i couldnt get bothered to look for the disc

i hope the final version of the game uses the correct flag for Austria-Hungary

the screenshots for this game at http://www.cyberstratege.com show the black-yellow flag, which is the pre-Ausgleich Habsburg dynastic flag

the correct civil flag for Austria-Hungary is shown at:

I am a huge fan of GRD's WWI series. I believe it is the largest that exists to date.
If this comes up to scratch it will certainly be well received.

BTW I hope the ANZAC units are represented. This is he detail that any successful WWIO game will 'need' to have.

Probably Der Weltkrieg (published by Decision Games) is the largest game series on the Great War; it covers nearly every front (pretty much all, with the upcoming game on the mideast theater) at division/brigade level.

Another good contender is Distant Foreign Fields by Grenier Games, which has multiple theater maps, 3000+ counters, and also covers the war at divisional scale.

My favorite operational game is 1914: Twilight in the East (GMT) covering the Eastern Front for the first several months of the war. The designer did an exceptional job of capturing the feel and nuances of early Great War fighting.

YES...ANZAC....i hope so as well, as there should also be Canadian Corps !!!! as a matter of fact i hope all the commonwealth troops are so distinguished. Both Anzac and Canadian played a huge part in WW1, especially for their small country sizes. Canada was only about 7-8 million population back then, they sent over 600,000 troops to Europe, almost 10% and from what i understand only 1 in 10 came home.

Hi
I just noticed that there are six new and intriguing beta screenshots of the game on AGEOD's web
http://shopus.ageod.com/game-description-World_War_One-662843.html

And i can see some Canadian troops on there, and Sud African... and American too ;)
And also national budget screen, off map boxes and some strange offensive planning screen
Cheers!

Hmmm, I see the option to use square icons on map can be used? Is that going to be the same as the battle screen icons? If so then I can see myself buying the game asap, since with the current figures shown on the map it makes it really difficult to see what army is what, and that is why I haven't pre-ordered yet, Normally I like the Aegod figures, but the fact it is a cut out rarher than a portrait feel (like in AACW) has been the biggets drawback to gettting this game.

The Grand Offensives of trench warfare requires big planning, so if you want to launch one, you have to pre-schedule it.
Of course, minor attacks can be launched anytime, but their effectivness will not be that much (and we know the effectivness of major trench war offensives :bonk: )
