Over Aggressive AI?

Sun Sep 28, 2008 2:23 pm

Hi folks,

Just had a confederate (AI) army launch a relentless and ultimately suicidal attack on some of my forces.

Settings - fow on, hard ai, use all behaviours, low detect bonus and normal aggression. Latest patch.

I had 3 divisions at Brunswick in Georgia and van Dorn sat next to me with a large force. He basically engaged in repeated attacks self-destroying his force and giving me 15 NM and losing around 40k men as far as was reported. I was really going nowhere as he had me sort of pinned.

Is this worth sending in a save for? If so how should I do that? Want to carry on playing asap ;)

Cheers

We need to know the patch version number, not (latest patch), there is an official patch v1.11a, and a new public beta patch v1.11b currently available.

yes, posting a saved game would definitely be helpful, as this sort of AI behavior is something that the programmer likes to get examples of.

If you can zip up the saved game folder/subfolder. you can attach it directly to a reply/post here in this thread. Just click on the "Manage Attachments" box below this "Message" box and you'll get a pop-up box that allows up to 5 attachments.

Regards and Thanks for the Feedback.

Rar attached of the Backup1 folder -hope that's right as the whole save folder was too big.

Was the early feb 1863 turn when it happened.

I'll look at this, but since the current game engine (v1.11b) has some changes in it that affect battle resolution, this might have to be retested under the new version to see if your questions might already have been addressed.

edit> Thanks very much for this saved game, the same behaviors are being exhibited under the v1.11b (public beta) version... A discussion of this with the programmer(s) and volunteer beta testers is about to ensue when they come on line later.

No problem - glad to help :) .

Be glad to hear of any feedback - Lee was also doing a strange wander around to Baltimore where he lost a lot of men too as far as I could tell. Wondered if that had influenced the AI of a need to act elsewhere (not sure how the AI addresses cross-theatre issues).

You wouldn't happen to have access to the entire set of saved files this turn was in would you? We may have it fixed in a newer beta version of v1.11b but we could use the turn files preceding this particular turn if you have access to them.

Just zip the entire folder within the /Saves folder pertaining to this game if possible. It should contain up to 24 turns actually.

Hi - whole folder attached, split rar into 3 as it was 10meg or so. Let me know if there are any issues.
