hi all,
to cut a long story short got talked into a pbem campaign by my highly intelligent bruv-im csa (sept1861).

question 1- i am being besieged in HF-(bruv didnt like that) i read somewhere
this is a bad thing due 2being trapped,but in reallity the defending force would entrenchin the outskirts-does the attackers surround you even if they are positioned say 2 the west of city-if so if i was 2 bring up a relief force
wouldnt it be attacking the rear of the besiegers.????

question 2- generals that are active (or not)

WOTS THAT ALL ABOUT!!!!!!!!

reason i ask sent "Price" into the enemies back yard in the hope my
bruv would SHOO me away-(so far so good) got a nice little force together
2 intercept at the garden gate (so 2 speak) and my general commanding
decides 2 pick up a brown envelope on the way and stops 2 admire the
roses (i guess).

question 3- to Pocus-would it be possible in the future for the players 2 have some input into the outcome of a battle-some sort of 2nd screen where we could at least position our forces for best advantage,you know the kind of thing (little squares with icons).....just a thought.

Hello Nilam and welcome to the forum. I'm sure you will get a lot better advice than what I'm about to say but for what its worth heres my tuppence worth.

If you have a unit or units inside a structure (a structure being a town, city, depot or fort) and the enemy is in the same region but is not assaulting your position then you are besieged. Usually this means that you are surrounded. There are exception to this when the structure is on the coast or a navigable river in which case the river or coastal waters would also need to have enemy in to totally blockade you.

If you have troops inside a structure then you dont defend on the perimeter you defend inside.

If you bring in a relief force it does not matter which way you approach....there are no flank attacks or attacks in rear in the game....its all head to head.

As for activation. Thats complicated but easy to understand once you manage to get your head around it. Try this link and welcome to the club

Thanks for response Soundoff-can you clarify if i counter attack with both
forces that they will attack together with combined stats or should i back off and wait till winter.
The other option i was thinking about was re-enforcing Harper"s-is it possible
by putting the stack on evade combat posture.?

Runyon's Strategy 101.

Activation is a necessary evil I'm afraid. And less control of battles is something that you'll appreciate about the game as you learn more . As Runyon says in his strategy guide. This game is about putting the right troops together under the right generals and getting them into the right position. Think of it as a really big chess game.

I have alot to learn,but im loving it.

Definately not ready for a PBEM game against an old Sandhurst boy,

you can expect to see my Butt floating somewhere off the coast Florida on his return.

I think my best bet is LEE and i am building an army for him in Richmond

i am leaving the AoTP where it is and hopefully Going to build 2 smaller

forces in the west under Jackson and Polk (maybe).

I have already taken Bowling Green with Jackson mega division but it was

Polk who turned "brown" on me-Price (5000 inf and supply) is now being

pursued by Quincey.....(.QUESTION-he is 5-2-2 what is the power numbers

in relationship to size of force.)

By the sound of it i have deduced that the union strength is like me in VA

Any advice from this position would be very useful.
