Critical error problems (solved)

Tue Sep 09, 2008 11:15 pm

Hi guys,

Brief specs:

Radeon X700
Latest Omega drivers
Windows XP

Having played for a few hours with 1.03 (no issues at all), I then downloaded 1.11a and got a critical error early June 1861 on my very first game.

I read the forums and checked my error log and it seems I was having the same texture crashing problems that others have had.

Following the advice given on changing the texture settings in options and then resetting my PC, I changed the settings in the system options to one below the max (default).

Having reloaded my PC, I discovered that the game failed to fully initialise. Instead of slow but sure (1.03) or swifter (1.11a) status bar filling the bottom of the screen, the game seemed to hang about 1/3 into loading up textures although there was no percentage display. I left my PC for 30 minutes before deciding to quit that attempt to load the game.

On my second attempt to load the game, the game started loading textures from what appeared to be the exact spot I had previously stopped it from loading.

I've uninstalled the game, performed a full system clean out, and am about to install the latest ATI drivers for my gfx card. I'm hoping that will resolve the problem but I think that this might be something which needs flagging up, just in case it's me having an odd day or someone else is experiencing similar oddness.

All the best,

Zeb

edit: well, the good news is that the August 2008 official drivers seem to fix the problem. The bad news is that it would seem that the CD I copied the download to is corrupted, fortunately didn't delete the original download until after I'd reinstalled. :bonk:

Does the crash repeats each time you click on end turn? If yes we can check the issue.

Hi Pocus,

thank you for your swift reply - one wonder if you find time to sleep in between making games, patching them and assisting silly n00bs like me :)

I have tried to replicate the crash twice now, although I cannot use the 'resume' command (whether by mouse or keyboard), the save game loads up correctly and then runs the turn without any problems.

It may well be the idiot who sits in front of my monitor who is at fault, but I just wanted to flag it as it seemed to be a different crash to the sort I was experiencing last night and thought it might be of some use to you in hunting down any last little bugs.

If not, your spending time replying is appreciated and you'll be glad to know that I'm becoming ever more addicted to this game,

All the best,

Zeb

I've got the same problem as Zebedee.

I have win-xp sp5? (I think), 4 gig of ram, and a geforce video card - not sure which one as I'm not at my home computer. However, I was running acw v.1.07 without any problems whatsoever. I installed the latest patch, eager to see the differences and it started crashing on the 2nd or 3rd turn of the campaign game when I hit the end turn button. It loads fine. However I have noticed that it scrolls at a jerking and very slow rate compared to v. 1.07. I have no idea how to get a "log" like Zebedee sent you.

I have many games that, to me anyway, seem to be a lot more graphically intensive than acw and I don't have any problems with them. I'm disappointed the patch causes the game to crash. I have just purchased the game and was just learning it. I found it very addictive and really enjoyed it for it's complexity and now I can't play it unless I delete the entire game and reinstall it. Is that what I need to do?

Not necessarily. Are you running 1.11a or 1.11? Because a important bug was corrected in 1.11a.

If your problem is not fixed, do you know which game is crashing? We can take a look in this case.
