Civil War Tournament, Round 3: Eliminations Continue

Thu Aug 28, 2014 8:03 am

After a round of pool play, and a round of elimination, we have arrived at round three:

We are playing this round with an modded version 1.04

The next round will play the April 61 campaign through Early July 1863 (final score will be the score shown at the start of Late July 1863, turn 56).

Left side of Bracket:

Ace (USA)- Jim-NC (CSA): Host-PGR (Jim replaces Citizen X who dropped out)
Skibear (USA)- Seraphim (CSA): Host-Havi

Right of Bracket:

Guru94 (USA)- Lindi (CSA): Host-Pgr
FelixZ (USA)- Liberty Bell (CSA): Host: Jim-NC (Liberty Bell replacing Moni Kerr who dropped out) Note: Havi replaces Liberty Bell

Update rules:
Status updates will be allowed, but only after they have been authorized by the tournament director. Hosts should take screen shots of the "objective screen" every 6 turns and e-mail them to Pgr. The tournament director will post these updates when all matches have reached the same point. (To be clear, no posting of game details about a turn before all games have reached the same point.)

Scoring:
VP will be the basis for advancement, with a NM victory giving a bonus. The NM bonus will be 2000+(100*number of turns remaining). This will prevent an early NM victory from being at an unfair disadvantage for VP against a game that went the full 24 turns.

The USA and CSA player on each side of the bracket with the highest VP total will advance to the next round.

House Rules:
There are no formal house rules for this round. If the game engine allows it, then it is allowed. No turns should be re-resolved by a host, except in case of an error in the normal running of a turn. All requests for re-running turns, from hosts or players, should be directed to the tournament director. (Hosts should activate error logging for tournament games, so that we can get proper technical support in case of technical problems.)

To repeat from before:
Hosting notes
1: Create a tournament directory in the Saves file and use the following naming procedure: Player(USA)-Player(CSA) (example: Pool A-Ace(USA)-Grey Fox(CSA).hst)
2: Zip the Hst file and send it to both players.
3: Players should enter orders and save, but DO NOT PROCESS THE TURN. Ord files are zipped and e-mailed to the host.
4: Host processes the turn and sends the new Hst file to the players.

Settings:
AI: On
Fog of War: On
Delayed Commitment: Max
Foreign Entry: Normal
Historical Attrition: Max
Automated Replacements: Off
Activation Rule: Medium (penalties, but dis-activated can move)
Naval Box Handling: No help (normal rules)
Extended pool: none (far left setting)
Easy Supply: Off

Hi guys, I just downloaded 1.04RC6 you posted in this link. It is 1.04RC6 file made 2014/06/25.

I guess Pocus posted 1.04RC6 in that thread instead 1.04. that was made on 2014/07/25 and that will be the official 1.04.

What do you guys say, we use the latest patch? I can't remember what were exactly changed in that month, but compatibility wise, it would be better if all use the latest version that is supposed to be identical to the official patch.

So, pgr, what do you think? Do we start with actual 1.04. before it becomes official?

I assume what he had put up was the most recent...
Everyone use the patch file Ace has linked to...

Hopefully the official patch will be out before any game gets too far along.

A quick announcement. Moni Kerr just informed me that he will not have enough time to continue his participation in the tournament. (real life strikes again!!)

So I have had to come up with an alternate policy. I am giving priority to tournament participants. Any drop-outs at this point will be replaced by the eliminated player with the highest score in the same category as the departing player.

In the case of Moni Karr, he qualified from round 2 as USA. The next highest USA score from round 2 came from Liberty Bell, so he will be replacing Moni Karr.

USA alternates:
Liberty Bell
Havi

CSA alternates
Jim-NC
Pgr

I will be the new host for Guru94 (USA)- Lindi (CSA).

I am waiting for Citizen X to post his first trn orders...

Me and Lindi definitely want to continue this tournament and are waiting for our host to set up the game.
Classical set up for us, just in the context of a tournament this time. We had an epic AACW game back then with many turning points and an really much casualties.

Guru and Lindi have started. (With a dastardly attack on Ft. Sumter)

Citizen X, I am still waiting for your turn so that Ace's game can get started....If we haven't started in a few days, I may have to look for an alternate.

Well after a quick chat with Ace... It seems that there is no real problem to upgrading to 1.04 immediately. All players should do so now.

Also, If I do not hear from Citizen X by tonight confirming his participation in the next round, Jim-NC will be replacing him in the match with Ace.

I usually play without music.

After upgrading to 1.04, began to hear music!

Opened up options and lo and behold nearly every option setting had been changed to what I presume the defaults.

Hi, Before my first turn I used the patch file Ace has linked to. Now I've upgraded by the auto update to the official 1.04 and the game crash when loading. Don't know what to do :confused:

All hosts, double check your settings after patching. Apparently they might revert to default settings.

To my knowledge, all games have now started. Hosts, please PM me a status update for your game/games. Just let me know what turn you game has reached plus the VP and NM levels at 6 turn intervals. (Turn 6, 12, 18, 24 etc) I will post the first set of relative standings when all games reach turn 6.

Please do not post standings for a turn before I have posted the results of that turn in all games.

Are the scores at the beginning of trn 6, or after 6 trns played (begining of trn 7)?

How otherwise would Lindi loose 3000 men while all armies were locked?zf

Specifying the turn to be reported is confusing. How about we use the reporting month?

Turn 6 = E Jul 61 .hst file
Turn 12 = E Oct 61 .hst file
Turn 18 = E Jan 62 .hst File
Turn 24 = E Apr 62 .hst file

A big thanks to Saraphim for going back in the archives and pulling out the score! We now have a complete set.

Of course everyone else has a lot of ground to cover... I have results from Saraphim through turn 30! :w00t:

FelixZ wrote:Specifying the turn to be reported is confusing. How about we use the reporting month?

Turn 6 = E Jul 61 .hst file
Turn 12 = E Oct 61 .hst file
Turn 18 = E Jan 62 .hst File
Turn 24 = E Apr 62 .hst file

To clarify, we will be reading the scores at every 6th host file. So this first set is the score at the start of turn 6 (the result of 5 turns processed)

It works out to the following host files:
6= late June 61
12= late September 61
18= late December 61
24= Late March 62
30= Late June 62
36= Late September 62
42= Late December 62
48= Late March 63
54= Late June 63
and the exception
56= Late July 63 (last turn processed is 55, Early July 63)

I would also like to float the idea of allowing people to post AAR like stuff once a certain number of turns has passed.
So currently no tactical or battle details are allowed. Once I post turn 12 results, all players could post reports on actions in their games up to turn 6.

Turn 18 results, and AAR reporting up to turn 12
24, and AAR results to turn 18 etc.

I figure it would make the thread more interesting for the players, and for the general public, but the 6 turn lag in reporting would mean the information is too out of date to influence ongoing play.

I'm inclined to allow it, unless there are strong objections. (And if you do object please let me know either in a PM or by responding to this post.)

L September 1861 (Turn 12)

Fri Oct 17, 2014 10:21 am

Left Side of Bracket:
Ok folks, the first summer is coming to an end. Late September 1861.
Below you will find the results.

Ace and Jim-NC have won the award for the bloodiest game debut.
Remember, turns 1-6 are now open for discussion.

Also, we got off to a bit of a slow start, but now that things are rolling along, it would be nice to be able to advance 2-3 turns a week...so we can all catch up up to Skibear and Seraphim!

Left Side of Bracket:
Ace (USA)- Jim-NC (CSA): USA- NM 104, VP 463 (+44/turn), 14,445 Losses. CSA- NM 102, VP 581 (+54/turn), 20,322 Losses.

Skibear (USA)- Seraphim (CSA): NM 94, VP 420 (+44/turn), 4273 Losses. CSA- NM 114 VP 621 (+51/turn), 3315 Losses.

Right Side of Bracket:
Guru94 (USA)- Lindi (CSA): USA- NM 95, VP 434 (+43/turn), 3,420 Losses. CSA- NM 108, VP 533 (+52/turn), 5,226 Losses

FelixZ (USA)- Liberty Bell (CSA): USA- NM 91, VP 310 (+42/turn), 2,894 Losses. CSA- NM 109, VP 536 (+54/turn), 10,941 Losses

And the screens (that I have for turn 12)

The objectives for USA and CSA are not the same. And Dallas can become temporary USA objective about 5% time by Sam Houston event.
