how does the unit experience work?

Tue Aug 21, 2007 5:39 pm

Hello all,i couldnt find this topic in the (in my opinion quite mediocre) handbook so....
i wonder if there is someone out there who can explain to me how the experience advancement for units and leaders work?
1) can militia be turned to regular forces? when yes does it work through combat experience?
2) how do i get exp. for my army, corps generals? Does the army leader have to be stacked with the divisions to gain exp? (McDowell and his divisions in 61)
3) when leaders gain enough experience to be promoted, do they also get a raise in their strategic, offensif, devensive skills?

Thanks

I respectfully disagree :)

However, in setting up the wiki, I've read through almost every line of the manual, so I might have a different relationship to it than most ;)

I'll give it a shot; I'm sure others will correct me where I'm wrong

AFAIK, no. Units that are "conscripts" can be trained, but I don't think militia can be trained. Not sure though.

I do think training depends on leaders having the right special abilities, not on units gaining experience.

Leaders need to participate in combat to get seniority (which is needed for being able to be promoted). I.e an army commander doesn't benefit if one of his corps fights batttles, unless the army stack is also part of it.

It varies. Some get better when the get promoted, some get worse, some stay the same.

Militias can switch to their 'trained model' if they are experienced. Without a leader.
