It's pretty helpful as the CSA but it doesn't mean the difference between victory and defeat. One still has to field a respectable army in order to survive the war. By respectable of course, I mean an army not composed mostly of militia.

Something that I've seen as CSA is that militia units might get ransacked by one or 2 brigades with following results =

casualties first battle round =

350 / 0

casualties second battle round =

250 / 10

casualties thrid battle round =

400 / 0

militia destroyed, city taken by the Union. I think that militia are sometimes very uneffective - even against smaller units like single or double brigades. This was even with the coef hit chance 125 instead of 150. Does this mean that one militia is not even worth to build ?

these kinds of battles happen all the time in MO and KY - so often I don't want to recruit militia there, just because they are so weak.

Something I saw during my last game - the Union invaded KY and I only had 1 brigade to be drafted from KY. Why is this ?

A single regiment is still good enough to prevent capture of a town by raiding cavalry. Just don't expect it to hold against even a single brigade set to assault.

and with that I can not agree - in some cases the enemy brigade will flood a city defended by militia and take the militia by surprise. I guess f.e. 4000 soldiers in one brigade attacking 1000 militia men will result in the capture of the militia (surrender) and having few casualties on the attacking side - but I also expect that sometimes the militia to man the barricades and kill hundreds of attacking soldiers in a fierce fight and repell those attackers. I Don't see this happen much - it's always militia massacre time.

I think the militia should get some defensive position bonus to shield them from enemy bullets.

don't use militia for offensive purpose, unless you are facing a very small opposition. They are good for defence though.
