IMHO, if you like BoA and the way it plays, you should find AACW to be at least as good and in many areas better than BoA, but that's what the demo will show you next week, I guess :)

I'm sure I'll love the game.
Wondering about the "operational side of things". Do the mechanics of the game allow representation of ambush/hidden movement operations like I think happened at the "Wilderness" campaign?

It's possible for certain unit types to perform ambushes, and it is possible for a force to go unnoticed by an opposing force, though since I'm unfamiliar with wilderness campaign, I have to admit I don't know which extent/scale you are thinking about :)

Thanks. Well I'm no expert either on the Civil War. I mentioned the Wilderness campaign because I think it's the one shown in the movie "Gods and Generals" (superb movie by the way!).

Basically the rebel forces manage to surprize the yankees by doing a force march through the woods unnoticed. That sort of manouvre i was referring to, that is, if one could use forests to move hidden so as to surprize enemies on the other side of the forest.

JohnC is referring not to the Wilderness but to Jackson's flank march at Chancellorsville which was shown in Gods and Generals. That is a tactical surprise attack which I do not believe is supported in the scale of the game.

That was Chancellorsville.

The answer would be both Yes and No.
No, because that exact movement happened within the area of just one small region (Albermale, VA) in the game.

Yes, because depending on the size of the force and ability of the commander (IIRC Jackson does have a Surprise special ability), you can achieve local surprise.
But it would happen within the game engine and not necessarily on the map.

Although, it is very possible to have Jackson move along undetected and "appear" in the Union rear area. It all depends on the enemies dilegence in security. The more military control you have of a region, the better info you have on enemy movements.
So if your enemy has no "eyes" on you (as happened to the Union at Chancellorsville and 2nd Manasass) you should be able to sneak up on him.

Thanks, that's GREAT...I enjoy a little bit of "operational" flavor along with the Strategic level !

The Wilderness Tavern appears in the movie (the scene where Jackson prays with his cook) and the battlefield is a few miles away from Chancellorsville (and Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania as well) so it is easy to get a little mixed up.

Gods and Generals ... was not a great movie.

And Jackson's flank march, as depicted in that film, took place at Chancellorsville in 1863. The Wilderness campaign took place one year later in the same general area (Both Federal and Confederate soldiers during the Battle of the Wilderness were finding bones from soldiers that had died in the Chancellorsville fight).

What time is it on Monday wherever you are? If it's one minute after midnight, it might be a little unfair to expect them to be on the dot.

We are in France, 5 to 9 hours ahead of the USA. :sourcil: ...which does not mean we release the demo at 00.00 on Monday...consider we shall work on this during that day instead...

still late on that, some bugs are still coming and I'm very reluctant to produce a demo if I know there is still a problem in the game. Perhaps late today or tomorrow, sorry.

The Demo is finished and is now being tested. Please leave some time to the Beta team to work. No one wants to see a buggy product released.
The Beta team is currently a new sound library + the demo. The sound change asks for some work as beta testers have to try every possible sounds combo...
For the demo, you'll get the 2 tutorials, Bull Run, 12 turns of the July campaign in it and we have to test them thoroughly. However, it should be ready in a couple of days.

Sorry, probably not before Wednesday, because priority is given to solving the requests and fixes from our current players / customers. Of course, if we can do so earlier... :niark:
