Final Countdown

Tue Apr 10, 2007 9:19 pm

The atmopshere is very strange in the Beta forum, everybody sounds suddenly at once tense, serious and happy. It feels like we are in a maternity hospital... (actually I've just posted I would wish to be able to share some nice cigares with the Beta team once the game released).

An exhausted Pocus has just provided the Beta team with the release candidate.

This means that, from now on, according to the tests we are going to make, any further version is likely to be the version that will be sent to the online shop.

Just one single day left, if everything is fine...

Nop, it's not.

A "release candidate" is the result of several monthes of coding and testing.
But, it does not mean we are not going to test it one last time.

Pocus told me he would have prefered to release the game one week later in order to perfect the AI.

I answered him " Right, just leave me some time to hide my family first"

We are not over optimistic. We can reasonable assume that some bugs or scritping errors have not been found by the Beta team. This is bound to happen. But we know we'll be able to patch them ASAP like we have always done.

And if the game is really released 100% bug free, we'll still release some patchs in order to implement new campaigns, to improve the AI or finely tune the game balance.

Right now, Pocus thinks the game is as stable as BoA 1.0. In the last two weeks, most of problems were script errors. These are very tricky to track down, but some betas are real hunters.

Oh, how I wish the same mentality was displayed by some of the so-called "major" developers.

But I digress...

Anyway, I hope you guys have some serious bandwidth available...

Btw, I was wondering, what sort of sales figures would make ageod happy? I'm not expecting an answer, just wondering...Obviously BOA did pretty well to allow you to make ACW.

If ACW does the same as BOA, it will be nice for us. I hope it will do better, due to the seeming popularity of the subject with the American public :siffle:

Well, apparently there are some folks in France who deemed it interesting enough to make a game out of it...

I've noticed that there are quite a few Europeans here, so I'm hoping that you'll choose a Euro-friendly hour to release the game (shameless and equally pathetic effort to fish for a release tip there, sorry)

Hopefully it will do wonders, so that you can get rich and...wait... not too much though, if you get too rich and happy, you'll just quit and retire in the Bahamas, so I guess I hope it does well enough to buy you a fancy new car and allow you to hire even more great designers/programmes to developpethis engine for the magnificent Napoleonic game that will be released for Christmas...

Right ?

Wow- Very Impressive, it sounds like a horde of 5 year olds on Christmas eve in here. :indien: :cwboy: :grr:  :p leure: :sourcil: :innocent: :coeurs:

I don't want to sound ungreatfull or greedy but does anyone know the status of the dedicated online server that has been discussed for "email" games? Obviously, there is no need for it immediately as everyone will be learning how to play, but I would like to see something out in a few weeks to a month or so. No matter how impressive the AI it just can't compare....

Please don't forget about it. :cwboy:

Please don't forget us Americans who want a Napoleonic version of ACW also!!! :niark:

What I am not looking forward to is the "we can always release a patch later" quality control that has crippled the PC gaming industry. If I wanted a job as a game debugger, I would have paid more attention in math class.
