When you enter the second battle, you see the "GAME PAUSED" white text on the screen? Haven't you hit the Pause key to unpause the game?

Hit the Pause button until the game is unpaused. Do not hesitate in posting your feedbacks about the one-sound-per-time fix, because if you have no more crashes, it means the cause of CTDs is really the multiple-sounds-playback stuff. ;)

I got to a part where it went into battle paused i hit the pause button 3 times and it unpasued itself :/ It does it every so often but if i hit it 3 times every time it does it, it continues on. Made it to january and i just took belgrade :) so far so good. One question when u get those giant gates blocking ur territory is that the railroads that got converted how do i get rid of them? Convert the railroads? I got the territory back but i got these gates blocking my diplomates from going to for example romania and sweden but before those were there i could. Ur wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

Giant gates? Mmmh... you probably mean the Railroad points... If so, yes you have to convert the rails, but these not-converted-rails do not block the movements of Diplomats, don't worry, because Dip. Moves are point-to-point (capital-to-capital). ;)
Railroads are instead of fundamental importance for supply relays (plus, of course, the rail moves).

Grabbing a screenshot is simple: hit F11 or '#'
A file named "Snapshot_0000..." is created in the game dir.

Ahhhh now I understand! You mean the map area called "IRON GATES"! :)
It's a forest area near Belgrade! And it contains a railtrack. So yes, I think you should convert the rails in that area.

So, Calvinus, looks as if you squashed some more bugs (and the important sound bug as well, eh?), so the usual question...when will we see the beta patch ;)

Yes, indeed I squashed the sound problem, plus the AI deadlocks reported by Syagrius and the crash in Stat window caused by the weird screen resolutions on 16:9 monitors...
I wish now to fix some other minor bugs and do some scenario corrections. So then I can publish a beta patch.

So, you call my 1440x900 screen resolution weird? :w00t:

Ok, looking forward to it, great work!

I personally hate the 16:9 monitors, but it's only my personal feeling. That's why they are weird to my taste. :neener:

Pretty sure it's the railroad thing too i am going to start over and take my time instead of trying to blast through serbia cause the units get in behind and kill my supply routes.

I'm getting a crash with 1.06a. I'm playing a 2 player Grand Campaign as the Entente. When I finish my Early August military moves and the AI takes over to start CP moves, I get a message that the Military AI is working and after half a minute or so, I get a crash to desktop. Any ideas?

Post here a zipped savegame (both .SAV and .MAP), so I check it. Yesterday I fixed a rare crash on the "peaceful frontier garrisoning" rule, reproducible. So it could be the same one you are experiencing. So post here the savegame so I can test it.

I tested your save with no crash. I believe yours is one of the usual crashes due to the "multiple-sound-effects-played-at-one-time" issue. The beta-patch 1.06B (that fixes this point) will be published between tonight and tomorrow morning latest.

Thanks,
Calvinus.

Is this patch cumulative? I've got a fresh install of WW1 from the cd, can I just apply this patch to it and start playing? Thanks.

hi there

ok, i've been lurking & watching this game since before it came out, waiting till it seemed ready to buy. the topic and treatment seems about the most interesting thing around until HOI3 comes out. thinking it's close, i downloaded the demo and its latest patch on the weekend.

while it works, the demo has been fun to play and the game looks very interesting, detailed and evocative - but i haven't gotten more than 2-3 turns into the game before it crashes to the desktop. i must have started 5 or 6 games on Sunday, but they all came to the same grisly end. usually i saved the game before each military & combat phase, and even reloading didn't help. Or i would go further back and change my moves, wondering if they were the problem, but still the game would crash, usually in the combat phase.

my interest is to play austria-hungary, so i play the 4 player campaign as austria using the default settings (simultaneous moves, all armies at once), i usually choose the koenig plan + good morale, and attack into serbia on the first turn as required. my aim is to besiege belgrade (i was never able to take it in the short periods allotted to me). most times, the game would crash in the combat phase. a few games lasted to turn 3 or 4 but they all ended up crashing in the combat phase, with some insurmountable error embedded in the savegame.

i thought by now it would be more stable than this - is the commercial version of the game better than the demo? or are they the same . . . should i be using turn-by-turn? or something else . . .

Hi rogs, the latest beta patch 1.06B has introduced a fix in the Sound system: we discovered that the sound engine did crash sometimes on some PCs (with some sound cards / codec driver versions) when more than one sound effect was played in the same moment.
So the 1.06B introduces a constraint: no more than one sound effect per time. Unfortunately, we published this beta patch only for the commercial version, not for the demo.

Thanks,
Calvinus.
