Lee can't be activated early, can he?

Fri May 09, 2008 4:22 am

In my game I've faced 2 1861 attacks on Richmond. The first was defended by a Corps led by Hugar. Also involved in the battle window was Lee. Despite being attacked (or supporting the defense, dunno) he didn't activate. Still had the padlock.

A month later (Jan, 1862), Richmond was again attacked. This time Lee was the only stack there and defended well. Again, he did not activated.

Any explanation will do, thx!

From what I remember R.E. Lee prior to June 1862 was an engineer working on the defenses in S.Carolina. He became commander of the forces in Virginia, June 1862. I am in my first game too, January 1862 and was wondering why he was locked

The game has him locked till mid-'62 for the historical reasons you mentioned (he didn't take command until after 7 pines/fair oaks in May(?) of 62).

What I'm confused about is that the tooltip says he will unlock if attacked, but he's been attacked twice now and it hasn't happened.

Was Huger located outside Richmond and Lee located inside Richmond? If the attack posture was orange, then the troops inside Richamond, although being displayed on the battle screen, would not have been involved.

That would be correct for the 1st battle. The 2nd battle I'm not so sure. Lee was inside Richmond, but he was listed as the general in charge. There might have been other units en route to Richmond and therefore present outside the walls when the battle took place.

Was Lee not sent to S.Carolina for political reasons? If I remember my reading correctly it was only the affection for Lee that Davis had that stopped Lee from being sent somewhere worse?
So for historical reasons perhaps Lee ought to be taken from the game altogther till June 1862?

Yeah I always put Lee on the outside of Richmond, in the unlikely hope that Athena will attack Richmond, never had her do it actually as I dont know how you guys all manage it?
Dissapointing for sure if he wouldnt have unlocked tho?
hee-hee in this latest patch managed to slam Jackson into DC again taking it on hard level (game over I win :fleb: )...hmmm the beta version I couldnt pull it off tho.....wierd.
