Improved Region Images

Fri Aug 10, 2007 5:40 pm

This thread will house, at least until I get a sizeable master file and some storage space for it, a compendium of improved, tweaked, and/or corrected region images. This includes things such as repositioned river names, town names, corrected region names on the map (hint: it's Ocracoke, not Ocra...). As well, I'll include region gamebase data files with corrected region names (Albemarle Cty and Albemarle Bay - not Albermale).

You can download the graphics file straight from the thread as they are BMP files. Put them in your Graphics/Regions folder (perhaps backup the original). The region database files (all built off the most current region change files) go in your Gamedata/Regions folder.

Pocus - I'd like to ask if you'd PM me with the info needed to alter the placement of the 'region possession' flags that are displayed in each region (Rebel or Union). If I could tidy some of the regions up, it would reveal much more of the map's nice artwork and also prevent a lot of graphic work. I know the data must be in the region datafiles, but I am not sure which line. I know that HOI2 had a cheat that revealed the coordinates for wherever your mouse was positioned on the map. This allowed one to quickly determine where they were on the maps coordinates for placing image and icons.

EDIT:OK, Imagefrap is changing the file names and converting them to PNG files, so I'll have to find some type of file storage for this. I think my DSL account gives me some MBs of storage - I'll check into that.

Hi PBBoeye!

[...] I know that HOI2 had a cheat that revealed the coordinates for wherever your mouse was positioned on the map. This allowed one to quickly determine where they were on the maps coordinates for placing image and icons.

You can activate this function in AACW in the 'Game Options' menu: 'System' --> 'Error Logging'

Cheers

Thanks. Are there all sorts of goodies going on with that?

Update - I had to reconfigure my DSL account to utilize the storage space. By this weekend the database should be adjusted so I can set up FTP access.

Once upon a time, Pocus said:
the position of regional flag is for now calculated by taking a position deduced from the barycentre of the region (barycenter for americans ) this is why sometime it is not well placed. This will need to some work on the map utility we have, but you don't have to tell us the regions number, because if we create a new system, we will place them precisely.

Well thanks. I sure hope they create something to alter it.
