A sandbox for better understanding the game mechanics

Tue Mar 21, 2006 3:30 am

I was wondering how a few things worked in the game, but didn't really want to ask --- instead I wanted to get answers for myself.

I then realized how easy this is to do:

(1) Turn off FOW (for the player).
(2) Turn off AI.
(3) You may want to turn off retreats if you are experimenting with combat dynamics.

(4) Start a game. Set up the desired situation you want for Side A. Run turns if necessary or, at least, save the game.
(5) Go back to the menu.
(6) Load the same game, but now choose the other side.
(7) Set up whatever you want to test.
(8) Run your turn.
(9) Go back to #4 and repeat.

In short, you can easily hot seat the game such that you the player have total control. An excellent way to understand the basic mechanics.

Now, its off to upgrade 1.04! :)

an additional note: you can rename a hst file into a scn file, and you will get a new scenario :)

just copy the sct file (in the event folder) of the first scenario, and rename it as the scenario you created, if you want to have events.

an example:

mygame.hst is in fact the 1776 carolina scenario. Copy this file into the scen folder, rename it to mygame.scn

go to the event folder, copy 1776 carolina.sct to mygame.sct.
