Border States

Thu May 19, 2016 6:17 am

I have had an odd occurrence recently. As the CSA I managed to take Delaware and most of Maryland but I did not receive any units buildable for either state. I was wondering if this was normal or if I should get some militia from the slave states. Thank you all in advance. I'm sorry for bothering you.

No bother Brent,

There is nothing in the game at the moment that will allow the CSA to recruit troops from Maryland or Delaware even if you control them.

You could mod them in without too much trouble, I haven't seen a mod available that does that though.

What would be easier to do is to create an event for a Volunteer Brigade once you controlled a key city. I will look into that one for you.

The following will generate a Volunteer Brigade in Baltimore and a Volunteer Brigade in Wilmington when each is captured by the CSA!! Not quite the same as being able to recruit regiments .. but something for your trouble. It should also work for your current game where you have already taken those cities!!!

Just copy and paste this into the very bottom of the CSA Events file in the Civil War 2>CW2>Events folder .. just use notepad to edit the file .. make a backup of the file first :blink:

NOTE: something odd with the copy and paste there .. make sure there are no spaces in $Baltimore_MD and $New_Castle_DE on the StartEvent lines

SelectFaction = CSA
SelectRegion = $Baltimore_MD
StartEvent = evt_nam_CSA_MarylandRebels1|1|1|NULL|NULL|$Baltimore_MD|NULL

Conditions
MinDate = 1861/05/01
MaxDate = 1865/03/01

EvalRgnVP = $Baltimore_MD

Actions

SelectFaction = CSA
CreateGroup

SetKind = $Land
Entranch = 0
InCS = 0
FixType = 0
SetName = Maryland Volunteers

CreateUnit

FlavorName = Col Francis J. Thomas
SUFlavorName = 1st Maryland Vols|2nd Maryland Vols|Baltimore Rifles

EndEvent

SelectFaction = CSA
SelectRegion = $New_Castle_DE

Welcome Brent!

Page 72 in the manual explains that you can only build units in states that essentially start as the CSA in 1861. The border states are an exception but do not include DE. Page 73 gives a list of reasons why you may not be able to produce units in MD. Good luck!

No bother. I think the devs felt like suppression was so strong in those states that militias
wouldn't be raised if taken. It's a fair point that they might have. There were Maryland
units that fought for the South. Perhaps they might revisit it, but I doubt it. That would
require a lot of coding. Unless it happened early in the war I doubt you would see that
many soldiers raised in those states anyway. If DC is still in Union hands there won't be
that much sympathy for fighting for the South in those states.

Baltimore should have a fairly high CS loyalty early in the war, which means, the South should gain a good amount of resource and CC income through capturing it. I'm not sure about Annapolis nor any Delaware cities, but the rule applies there too.
