Blockade/raiding clarification

I kind of understand how blockading works but can we clarify exactly what effect the various options have specifically with GB vs France

1. Brown water blockade by stationing enough ships in a sea zone outside an enemy port - stops those ports earning any trade income (outside of 'Runner' RGDs!?)

2. Placing ships in the general 'blockade box' presumably also has an overall effect?

3. Placing warships in the general 'trade' box presumably leads to raiding on enemy commerce?

4. Placing warships in the 'commerce' in various locations has an effect of what exactly?

Do not want to take over - but I´d like to add - is there a reasonable chance of catching trade ships of the enemy in a tradebox?
