Replacement System Mistmatch

Sat Dec 05, 2015 5:04 pm

I like the simplified replacement system, but there's something off about it.

It costs 0 horses to build an artillery. It costs 8 horses to build a horse artillery. It costs 10 horse to replace an element within either. That doesn't make sense for either normal or horse arty.

You aren't even tracking horses for normal artillery (just men and guns) so why am I having to use horses to replace it?

I think you over simplified the replacement system. Horse Artillery needs to be a separate replacement from Regular Artillery, since within the game, one uses horses (and is tracked) and one doesn't.

Again, I'm not speaking historically, just pure game mechanics.

I need to expand a bit. It costs 8 horses to build a 3 element horse artillery brigade. It's costing 10 horses to replace a single element within that brigade. It's costing 0 horses to build a 3 element normal artillery brigade and 10 horses to replace a single element.

The cost to replace a single element is much higher than the cost to produce the entire brigade.

Doesn't make sense.

So it's looking like a "horse" in the production system equals 10 horses in the element. Some units cost a bit more in "horses" because you round up on the horse requirements if the final number of horses for a unit doesn't equal a factor of 10. That makes sense.

However, a horse replacement (dragoon, etc.) costs 35 horses when it should cost 40 as the standard number of horses for a horse element (dragoon, etc.) is 400 horses in the element. Perhaps this varies by nationality, but at least for France, a horse replacement should cost 40 rather than 35.

Now that I understand this, the artillery replacement system is totally out of whack.

We had to simplify the system indeed, it was overblown with 40+ types of replacements. So yes, there are units that get the short draw and others who benefits more from it. Also take into account that some units will eat up to 3 replacements when using one, as they are elite.
