big losses and magic appearance of conscripts.

Fri May 18, 2007 10:30 am

From the AAR I wrote in the AAR board :

In early november 1862 I have lost around 45 000 men in 15 days of battle from battle damage, + many hits from weather. As a result a corp under Jackson (1500 Av to begin with) was wiped out completely and Lee's Army of the Potomac went from 2500 Av to less than 400.

Now the odd part : I check my replacement and recruiting pool and I have 1 000 money ( I printed 2 turns ago so makes sense) and 1 000 conscripts that appeared from nowhere !!!!

I hadn’t levied any men so I don’t know where they came from ??? Did all men from Jackson’s Corp desert to join the recruiting center ? Anyway I’ll need them all so I can recruit many Brigades, but I just wandered if this was WAD ?

I'll answer the easy question from your AAR thread.
( by the way how do I clean the save game folder in the main screen, it is full of old games...)

Image

Hover the mouse over a save to get the tool-tip.
Hit the Delete key to erase that save.
The small "computer" button in the upper right corner toogles between showing/not-showing the AI's file for each save.

All of your old turns should still be saved in the "Saves" folder.
C:\Program Files\AGEod's American Civil War\ACW\Saves
They will be labeled Backup1, Backup2, etc... the larger number being the previous turn.

conscripts are added by to your pool when your units take casualties. Casualties <> deads

Waoh, so 1000 conscripts in my pool suddenly means a ton of casualties right ?

1,000 conscript companies is the rough equivalent of 100,000 men. Without knowing how much you lost due to weather, its impossible to know if the calculation is right.

I guess it would be to complicated to divide the quantity by 6 and to add a 1/6th during 5 turns ? What I mean is that I understand deserters, stragglers and lightly injured soldiers would fill back the ranks, but more in a 3 months span rather than suddenly the day after the battle ?

I understand it might be complicated, and actually it isn't a big deal since the conscripts have to be recruited and formed again.. Actually forget what I said, it works fine that way.

The interesting thing with this game, and I'll try to play the backup if I can find it, with the new patch is how would the new check for losses have influenced the battle... It will be interesting to compare..

Well basically I had 3 full big divisions (16-18 elements) wiped out and 5 divisions that lost 50 to 70% of their forces... + probably 4 supply wagons gone as well as a medic unit. so that would be around 12 000*3 + 7 000*5 + 1200*4 = 76 000 casualties. Since about 40-45 000 happened in battles, that means 30-35 000 casualties were due to either surrendering outside of battle (parts of Jackson's corp may have surrendered when Harpers Ferry fell) or winter hits...

Rough estimate there of course.
