Tue Jun 30, 2015 2:20 pm

Hi,

is it possible to have the game run a hands-off AI vs. AI game? If so, how?

Yes, but not without working it.

Pre-game setup:

A. Using a text editor such as Notepad.exe or Notepad++.exe, edit General.opt in ..\CW2\Settings, at the end of the file add a line with "aiFlushOnCalc = 1".

B. Turn debugging mode on: start the game => open the main menu => Options => System => Error Logging [ON].

C. Start a scenario normally as one of the factions giving a notable name.

Procedure to have the AI generate orders for each factions:

1. Click the "Proceed to next turn" button. This will do two thing, 1) save the loaded factions orders, which should be none, 2) cause the AI to generate orders for all other factions and then drop to the main menu.

2. Using a file manager such as Windows Explorer, navigate to the scenario Saves folder (C:\Users\{User_Name}\My Documents\My Games\{Installation_Folder_Name}\CW2\Saves\{Scenario_Name} where C: is the disk where your Users folder is located) and delete the orders file for the loaded faction; for example if the Union side is loaded the Union orders file will have the format "Scenario_Name~USA.ord", without the quotes of course.

3. Load the scenario as the other faction.

4. Click the "Proceed to next turn" button. This will do two thing, 1) save the loaded factions orders, which should be the orders generated by the AI in step 1., without changing them, 2) cause the AI to generate orders for the faction who's orders you deleted in step 2. and then drop to the main menu.

5. Load either faction and click on the "Proceed to next turn" button. This will cause the game engine to recognize that orders are available for all factions and execute the turn.

Repeat steps 1-5 for each turn.
