Hi,
I couldn't find an "opponents wanted" section to post this in, so here it is. If I am mistaken, thank you for pointing me to the correct place and I will post there. I have also posted the same message in the Matrix Games forum.
So, I just picked up this game, and I am looking for a fun and persevering PBEM opponent to face me while I attempt to restore the glorious union! I would like to play the full scenario (starting in April 1861) in order to get the full "flavour" of the game. Of course, I understand that not much happens for the first few turns, but I expect there will be plenty of action later.
In terms of settings, well, I would leave everything pretty much standard as it is; historical attrition, naval blockades have to go home every so often or suffer attrition, manual replacements, large penalty for unactivated generals, etc. We can discuss house rules, although I have no idea what kinds of house rules are reasonable, or what people have played with.
A bit about me: I am a veteran wargamer, and I got my start on computer wargames playing SSG's Korsun Pocket. My favourite wargame is probably War in the Pacific, so complexity is up my alley!
That said, I am very new to this game. I have played it for just over a week now, and I finally seem to have the basics down. I played it VS athena on lieutenant up until the end of 1861, and I did well enough that I feel ready to take my first steps into tentative PBEM. As such, if my prospective opponent is very experienced, he/she may wish to look elsewhere for a really tough strategic challenge. Ideally, I would be looking for someone who does not have an overwhelming amount of experience with the game.
I can do about 1 turn a day, though that may vary sometimes (I am going to Croatia in a few days and will be unavailable for a week, for example).
So, if you are interested, please PM me or send me an e-mail at guillaumelamothe@yahoo.com
I look forward to seeing you on the battlefield!
