Athena's forgotten generals

Tue Dec 24, 2013 6:33 am

In games against the AI, doesn't matter which side I'm playing, Athena will frequently appear to forget about one or more leaders and leave them in place indefinitely. I've attached a picture of the latest example, but I'll also describe it. I defeated a small Confederate force led by Albert Johnston in late 1863. The force wasn't able to escape (made the mistake of trying to haul off fort batteries through the mountains of Tennessee, without the benefit of rail. Johnston was left standing alone in the region where he was defeated. He's been there now for a year's worth of turns. This is not isolated to 3-star generals. In the same game, Robert Hoke is in the mountains of West Virginia. The problem is not restricted to defeated forces. If an event spawns in generals in a position I have overrun, at least in CW2 the generals seem to spawn outside that region. But then they'll often sit there for eternity.

This also happened in AACW1. I haven't tried it, but I could try loading the CSA order file that Athena creates and give the generals a nudge back to Confederate territory. I don't know if that would prompt her to use them (I'll try and let you know).

Has anyone else run into this? It seems unfair to me to rob Athena of Johnston's abilities. Maybe I should pretend I'm displaying him in public as a warning to the other rebels ...

This is a common problem. The latest patch was meant to fix this by giving stranded generals a nudge and a point in the right direction to get them moving towards their respective national capitals. If you are using the latest patch, vers 1.02, then it would appear that the problem still exists.

I'm still on version 1.01.

Time to upgrade, I believe.

I confirm a brand new AI algorithm was created for that in 1.02, so it should be definitively better with the newer CW II version.
