AJE or BOR

Hi All,

I am thinking about ordering either AJE or BOR but I am not sure if my system will handle it.

I have an HP model s3600f using Vista with Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2180 @2.00 GHz 2.00 GHZ with 2.00 GB RAM with a 64 Bit Operating System. It has an integrated video card NVIDIA GeForce 7100/NVidia nforce 630i. I am not sure how well the video card will handle the game.

So can my system handle the game smoothly or at all?

I am also wondering which game people would recommend for first purchase, the AJE or the BOR?

I have played the AGEOD ACW and AWI games on a different computer and so am familiar with the system. Playing Rome should be a blast if my computer and video will handle it.

Both! I would see if ACW works on your system and if it does then buy these games. I prefer AJE slightly to BOR. That is not to say BOR is bad, and I enjoy some of the scenario's a lot. I like the larger scale of AJE. Pompey Vs. Caesar, Sertorious and Mithridates Vs. Rome. Year of the Four Emperors is cool if short, and Year of the Five Emperors is interesting. On the other hand BOR scenario's are smaller scale but at the same time longer. If you struggled to handle larger scale AGEOD games BOR is probably going to be a better way to get into the game series.

Finally, if you have an interest in history pick the one that focuses on the era you like most.

YOu should do just fine with your hardware. I have computer 7 years old (single core processor) and it works. Not without some small problems, but it works. So go for it.

Although vast improvements in gameplay have been made since it's release, the best way to see if your system can handle these games is to try and run AJE demo.

Well I downloaded the AJE demo and I am hooked...

It worked fine on my Vista computer. I then tried it on my XP computer and it died during loading. I noticed that I was given the option to select an XP Operating system when I first loaded the demo up on my Vista but wasn't given the option when I loaded it up on the XP computer. I wonder if the first execution of the demo locks in the OS type. The crash on the XP was pretty conclusive.

What is the policy on how many computers I can use to play AJE or BOR? I have two computers I would like to play them on. One is the Vista with internet connection and the other is the XP in my room without internet connection. It has to be on the Vista if I want to play PBEM but I also would like to do solitaire in my room with the XP. So is it legal and possible to play on two different computers with a single purchase?

Also is there any advantage or protection to buyiing the disk in addition to the download?

If you download the game from AGEOD I think you can put it onto as many PCs as you like. I have it on my PC and two laptops at the moment. Never had any problems with different OS. It should work on any OS you choose to load it on. I put the downloaded file on a flash drive and use that to install the game onto the laptops - never had any problems. If you do have problems I'm sure they can be sorted out - just post.

It's really similar but you have an enormous area in AJE wherein BOR you have smaller strategic area...

Well bought AJE last night. I was hooked by the 4 Emperors scenario. I have to see how it plays out beyond 10 turns.
I do wish there was a larger font option. My eyes are having a tough time with the messages.
