"Red" Flags...

Thu Nov 25, 2010 4:06 pm

So far I have noticed that the flag of Soviet Russia is wrong in the game. It actually shows the flag of the Soviet Union which was adopted later, beyond the time frame of the game. The correct flag should be the following: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Flag_RSFSR_1918.svg
You could check the relevant article as well http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_the_Russian_Soviet_Federative_Socialist_Republic
Also the Chinese flag in the game (the dragon on the yellow banner) is actually a flag of the empire of Qing which ceased to exist in 1911. The flag of the Republic of China should look like this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Flag_of_the_Republic_of_China_1912-1928.svg
Could you please remove the historically inaccurate flags?

We had discussion about the "Red" flag.

As the game cover up to 1923 in the "Drang" scenario, at this time the Soviet Union did exist, and its flag would have been the one we have chosen that is universally recognised by everyone.

But you are right this flag become official only in December 1922. So right at the end of the game.

Before that, the situation is more complicated, as each independant Soviet Republic was having his own flag.

Moreover, at the very beginning of the revolution, the only accepted flag was a red flag.

And the symbol of communism in early soviet russia was not a hammer and sickle but a hammer on a plough:

OTOH, we needed a single flag for the "Red" camp altogether.

The RCW is very much about the Bolchevik power gaining power and control over everybody else in Russia.

So in the end we choose the flag that they made become the soviet union flag when they had won the war. Not strictly historical accurate, we know. Simplification, we know. But it is the flag most recognised by the most people.

I am sure a lot of modders will be delighted to create other historically accurate flags, that people would be able to choose from, depending of their tastes. :)

I read post somewhere explain reasoning for Soviet flag, don't remember what it was. I'm sure there was reason and not an oversight of history.

Edit: I post at same time as Cat Lord

That, on the other hand, may well be an oversight, becuase I don't remember any discussion about it ! :D

Shouldn't it be a Mandchurian flag in the first place (if such thing ever existed).

Why Manchurian? There wasn't any Manchurian state in that period. Manchu-kuo was established much later (1932) as a puppet state of Japan.

Manchuria is a mess in this time :bonk: : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manchuria#Russian_and_Japanese_encroachment

But you are right it should be the flag of the Chinese Republic with the five colored bands. :)

Well, the whole China was a huge mess during the twenties :bonk: , but that doesn't speak against the fact that Manchuria was internationally recognized as a part of China, so Republic of China flag would be most appropriate and most logic. Nice that we both agree upon that.

Here's a possible alternative for Manchuria. It was used by the Fengtian Clique, whose powerbase was in Manchuria.
