WS issues

Mon Feb 23, 2009 11:49 am

Howdy all again.

Have some questions regarding WS and supplies.

I have gotten my feet wet getting into the game, started the 1862 GC as USA but decided to try the 1861 GC as CSA. I noticed that the CSA has a very limited amount of WS and supplies, but I seem to be able to keep my troops in supply. I have raised all of the militia I can and understand that as they train, over time they will upgrade into regular infantry?

My problem is that my WS is always so low and I am unable to keep it out of the red zone. I tried some light industrialization in VA and NC, but as I read the threads I think it says that the industrialization sucks up my WS ?? I like to see the new factories coming on line making supplies, but does it mean that until I remove the industrialization icon they keep using up my WS??

I think I also understand that I can bring in more WS by creating blocade runners (brigs are best??). Problem is, I never have enough to create brigs or runners and never have enough to create real infantry/artillery/HQ's etc becasue I keep going into the red zone.

Any ideas??

Thanks for any help.

When you get a production increase from industrialization, you'll read about it in the message box. The increase is permanent, and you don't have to maintain the produciton investment on an ongoing basis. So, if you try light industrializatino in a state on turn 1 and get a 3 WS factory in return, you can cancel the industrializaiton order on turn 2 and you'll keep getting the +3 WS every turn. So, if you're lcky, the factory will pay for itself very quickly.

That said, I agree with Gray and just about everyone else on this forum -- indsutrialization is too expensive and too big of a gamble to use very much, if at all. I like to "roll the dice" on a couple of industrialization attempts in the first couple of turns, just becasue ads to the flavor of the game, not because it's a smart investment.

To get more WS you need to send brig squadrons into the blockade boxes. You start with 4 free squadrons but that's not enough, so buy some more early on.

Are you sure about this? According to information I've read, the benefits of industrialization will slowly fall back to vanilla values if the industrialization cost is not continued. I don't think the "fall back" is immediate however. This would be as per design. If it's actually permanent then, you've found a bug most likely and it will have to be looked at by Pocus.

Rationale: Industrialization is supposed to represent new industry not only being built in a state, but also drawing from the material originally needed for war purposes. The output of the industrialization is somewhat randomly decided, but these new factories are supposed to be continuously supplied with the material in order to maintain their additional output.

Thanks Gray and Major Tom,

I shall take your advice and cancel those factories right away. They have been producing for approx 6 turns, and all I got from them was some ammo and general food supplies, no WS, so I guess it was not worth it.

I shall build the brig runners instead.

Thanks Again
