AACW.exe has encountered a problem...

Sun Feb 22, 2009 4:33 pm

My son recently purchase this game from the school books store because they are studying the Civil War in his 4th grade class. excited to get it and play it he was bummed when it won't start.

-I've search through the other Error threads and haven't found this issue so I'm hoping for some help to get him up and running.

-I've installed the program direct to the C drive and not in the programs folder as was suggested in another thread.

-I have installed patch 1.13b and that hasn't fixed the problem.

-I've attempted to start by clicking directly on the .exe file and not using one of the various shortcuts

This is a new computer that I just finished putting together about a week ago. Specs are as follows:

Windows XP Pro, sp3
AMD Athlon 64x2 5200+ 2.70 GHz
4 gb RAM
320 gb HD
nVidia 9600 GT 512mb

so far this is the only program that fails to launch.

the actual windows will not let it start and brings up the "Send Error Report" option after telling me they are sorry.

ANY help will be very welcome. Let me know if more info is needed.

Thank you

Ok so I read a few more threads and someone was mentioning sound so I started tweaking the sound settings and after playing with the computers sound settings for a bit, the game now starts and plays. Not sure exactly what I did but it worked so all is well.

I am happy to hear that.

So you haven't updated your sound drivers but simply changed some settings? Or had you some other programs running in the background which might have caused the trouble? We are always very interested to learn about what might interfere with our games. :)

Cheers

Well I mainly just played with the hardware acceleration for Sound, Audio & Voice. They are all set to full as default and I now have Audio and Voice set at 75% with Sound @ 50% but eventually returned to 100% after the game started working. I’m going to play some more with it to see if I can get it all back to Full and I plan on putting on the latest Realtech HD drivers as I see there is a newer one for MB I have. Hopefully that will get the sound so it doesn’t come across ‘flat’, with not only this but now with the other programs. I’ll post again after I get the new drivers loaded this evening.
