Need help with Shiloh scenario...

Thu Feb 12, 2009 2:37 pm

Playing as Union, formed 2 corps from 4 of 6 divisions in Army of the Tennessee under Grant, using the two 2 star generals. Folded the remaining 2 divisions under Grant himself. This gave me a army and 2 corps. Did the same with Buell, forming 1 corps and folding the rest under Buell. My strategy was to create depots at my two starting points in turn one. After that, got my a** handed to me every time I engaged in battle, no matter what I did.

Couple of questions...is it better to form the bulk of my men into corps and move the corps with the army? Or is it better to place as many men as possible in the army itself, directly under Grant, to form a more cohesive fighting force?

Once I've lost a battle and retreated, is it necessary to let the troops rest (and not move) for at least one turn, to build cohesion back up? The scenario only has 8 turns, so I can't see not using my troops every turn.

I spent so much time trying to prevent command level penalties, that I must not have had a good mix of troops in each force. Do I send Grant himself into battle, or hold him back and send attached corps only? Can someone please suggest a good way to organize my forces initially, in this scenario, and I'll try it again. Thanks in advance. Cheers.
