game fails to initialize with any of the recent patches past version 1.09

Hello Pocus:

I am having the same problem as Ardie did only I can do a fresh install and use patch verison 1.09 and everything plays great......when I try to do a fresh install and patch the game with any of the newer patches beyond 1.09 and thats including the newest 1.12 the game doesnt get to far....it just wont initialize....goes back to the desktop with a gray box stating that AACW.exe has generated errors and windows will have to close the application down and a error log will be created but since the game didnt initialize there is nothing in the log :( I sent you an email with the general.opt file attached hoping you can solve yet another mystery :) Here is the post that I am referring to from Ardie.

Well............after 7 hours of testing and more testing I finally was able to install the lastest patch of 1.12 and it works!! :) I was even able to install the historical accuracy mod (fast install) and that worked also....can you believe it.....I know I cant......woot.....yay....alright :) for the longest time I had to play this game under version 1.09 until finally I read the post under Ardie and Pocus response to it and then it suddenly sunk in.....thank you Ardie and Pocus ......I said to myself it must be a setting and sure enough it was.......I can play with music on ....sounds on......what I found was under the system options....I took off all the checks except for memory usage set to max and max texture set to very large.....I left those two checks on and wow....I have never seen the game load so fast.....I was even able to start a campaign under verison 1.12 with no problems so Pocus please disregard my email I sent to you and for everyone else.....hopefully this will help some of you who are experiencing the same problem.....I really do hope this helps :) and a big thank you to Ardie for posting and for Pocus for responding to that post....it certainly helped me out...........woot :) and now finally back to the game.....woot :)

Thanks

Thanks Gray for responding but as you can see I was able to fix my problem under the settings in the game under system options :) and this has been a long night of testing back and forth because I was thinking it was a sound problem....like music being played or sounds being on but nope...I was able to play with music and sounds on under version 1.09, I just couldnt get the game to initialize on the newer patches so I was stuck on verison 1.09....finally after reading Ardie's post and the answer from Pocus I knew it had to be a setting :) and one thing is for sure I do not have Vista or XP....I have windows 2000 Pro with SP4......go figure ......hopefully this will help others out so they can play with the newest verison :)

Thanks everyone

I answered someone who got a lot of problems with AACW on support, explaining in no less than 16 points what he did or suffered from. is it you, Billy Yank?
